Hi All The wonderful Dr. Aranow is my Surgeon, and as usual, one of the requirements prior to surgery is a meeting with the nutritionist. I was thinking that was just a meeting where the post op diet was explained. Now, one of my friends just met with the nutritionist this week and was told she has to go on a diet for one month and then go back and see the nutritionist. When I had my consult with Dr. Aranow he said I needed to lose 10 lbs, so I have been dieting and exercising. I have also stopped drinking my diet sodas and now am getting in a minimum of 60 ozs of water daily. My question is to those of you who have already met with the nutritionist affiliated with Dr. Aranow. Is this standard procedure? Or is it different for different people depending on their individual needs? Since my appointment with the nutritionist is the final step in my getting the surgery, I am very curious to know if I have to stop thinking that I will be having surgery within a month or two and start mentally preparing to have to diet an additional month before surgery. Any advice or suggestion would be very much appreciated. Thanks Kristi

Hi Kristi. You know, I think it depends on the individual person. I have also heard conflicting things. I believe that they make an asssment based on their meeting with you. When I went to see her, I was currently on Weigh****chers. She said to continue on with it and try to loose some weight before surgery. She suggested some changes to what I was currently eating. That was it. I think that they would like to see you demonstrate the ability to comply with directions and to change your eating habits. Any chance you ahve been folowing a 'diet' program that you can let her know about? How about recently added exercise routine? I think that would help as well. If you go there demonstrating that you have already begun the necessary changes, I think it will go a long way. Good luck to you!

hey kristy it's beth. as you know i didn't go to your doc. but, when i went to mine she said nothing about dieting before surgery or any changes. we talked about my past attempts and what things will be like after. none of this lose weight first stuff. i think i'm taking another week off because i was thinking that i see my doc. tues. and after that i get food but, if i have a problem with the food i won't have time to get another note in time as HR requires.
