The DCF home exam isn't too bad. They check your water if you have a well. Make sure you have safety systems in place, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc. All your pets must be up on their shots. They make sure things are clean and that there is an appropriate room for the child. We had to go get our fingerprints done and on file with the local police department.
In our case, it was an immediate need foster care situation with a little girl we knew. It took less than two weeks to get approved because she was in a crisis situation, knew us and specifically wanted us to take care of her.
Foster care is a lot of work. Good luck with the adoption.
Good luck,
Bev
