Hello to all fellow Connecticut ladies n gents!! I had a severe attack in my colon of diverticulitis,,I was admitted thru the ER and was in for 8 days n nites ,,,with a raging fever//antibiotics and all that it took to keep me from getting my colon partially cut out~~~theses surgeons wanted to get me in day 2 and operate..and being a nurse...I told them to back off,,and give me a chance to try the powerful antibioticsand liquid diet(low residue)! I finally got discharged 2 days before my scheduled surgery(July3rd)~~~I can`t begin to tell you,,,,what I`m feeling now that Im home alone~~~no more support thru Danbury Hosp. and not knowing if in the future I should pursue this "life altering" surgery ....knowing that the house surgeons told me that if i had had my RNY 1st then had an attack of diverticulitis and HAD to have part of my colon out,,,I`d be in very big trouble(life threatening)  Soo..I`m sitting here kinda at a loss after all I`ve been thru,,yet I thank God for being home finally coming thru slow but sure this infection and pain....and just gratefully taking it one day @ a time!!! You are All welcomed to read my profile...when I 1st started my quest for GBSurgery (at Eastertime)....and now only 3 months later soo much has unavoidably...NOT gone as planned at the very last minute!!  The only positive thing I can truely be gratefull about Is that it happened for a reason,,,one of those"there are no accidents" and the fact that I have lost 25 lbs since I got admitted to the hospital 2 weeks ago(june 22nd to the 1st of July),,,my surgery was scheduled on the 3rd of July @ Danbury Hosp.  I now weigh 240..and I healing my colon,,,,,,,and rethinking things!! Please write and help me thru theses days,,,I`d love and appreciate your support!! Sincerely,,Lucia Marie

Hi Lucia Marie!  I'm so sorry all of this has happened to you!  How about the lap band?  Is that an option for you?  There is no rerouting of your intestines or cutting of your stomach.  It is totally reversible if needed, by simply removing the band.  I have had incredible success with the band.  Maybe this happened for a reason and the RNY isn't meant to be the surgery for you.  At least you know there are other options.  Feel free to PM me if you would like more info. Take care. Cindy

Lucia Maria, I hope you are feeling better.   That is the most important thing now.... time for you to heal, physically and emotionally. I know how disappointed you must be but things do happen for a reason. I have been approved for the lapband, but I need to wait until I have my parathyroid removed.  My doctor's office told me I must be 100% healed before I can have the lapband surgery.  This is giving me time to reflect on my options.  Maybe as you recuperate, you can investigate the other surgeries available. Feel better soon!

Hi, I can't imagine your disappointment. I went in to have a lap-band done on1/31/07. When I awoke in the recovery room, I was told the doctors weren't able to do the procedure because of an enlarged liver. I was devasted! With all my research, I had never heard of such a problem. I have a huge a medical history and have decided to have RNY on 7/24/07. Would the lap-band be a safe alternative for you? Bonniebsailing

HI bONNIE,,,,aS FAR AS THE WHOLE LAP BAND THING,,,,,,,,,im not enthused about it,,,,I wanted to take the RNY route,,,,now Im not sure if I want any surgeon comin near me........I wanna stay away from ALL surgeons for a while!  I totally need a breather from all this,,,,,,and try to get my digestion back on track,,,Im still on soft food and basically only green tea,,hot or cold,,,nothing seems to go down rite, except an occasion piece of Italian bread~~some nice soft zucchini in like an Italin rattitui~~and for dessert,an occasional Dannon`s lite n fit yogurts My appetite is nil~~at this time..and im better off ...heck ive lost forty lbs on my own  just because of my diverticulitis~~~so rite now Im just gonne chill out when it comes to eating and doctores!! thanks for writing,,,id love your support Sincerely, Lucia Marie

Hang tight and let your colon heal. If you can lose weight on your own- all the better. Good luck. Bonniebsailing
