I need help with finding a Dr

hello...i just had my lap rny on may 16 with dr carlos barba, he's out of st francis in hartford and let me tell you he did a great job!  no major problems, minimal pain and he's done so many of these operations he could probably do it with one hand!  not to mention he's very laid back and won't scold you if you didn't do the liquid diet before you operation!  lol

I am going to call him first thing Monday morning and hopefully get an apt ..before I go on vacation...

I am sorry to hear that this has happened and know what it is like to have your heart and mind on something and to be disappointed. I have Dr. Tishler in Hartford.  I don't know what type of insurance he takes.  You can call  him at 860-246-2071 and select option 2.  Then go thru the prompts to speak with someone. This is easier said than done but you have to stay focused and not let this stop you or set you back.

 

 

Thank You Michele, I have called Dr Barba's office his seminar isnt until August but I will have to wait....it is frustrating waited 15yrs almost so whats a few more months...TORTURE..LOL I am going to stick to my diet and try to be under 300 by the surgery date when I  get one... Pam

When you are looking for a surgeon, I noticed that you were wondering what their death statistics were like.  Although it's important to know if they are being sued for malpractice, often times surgeons lose patients through no mistake of their own (not always, I will admit).   I have heard very good word about the many different laparscopic surgeons in CT-- friends highly recommend Dr. Choi at Danbury Hospital and others have used the Fairfield Bariatric Group in Norwalk with great success. 

I was going to a Dr in the Fairfield group but they dont take my insurance after Sept 1st , the concern for loss of patience is well I am a mom of 2 and want to be around for them... I might be using Dr Barbas , I am going to his seminar Aug 13th..... Pam

Hi - you might try Dr. Geoffrey Nazdam at the Center for Obesity Surgery at St Raphaels Hospital in New Haven.  I had LapBand done on June 20th and am doing great but I know he does Lap RNY as well - his staff is wonderful and the hospital stay was one of my best.  I have Aetna - have they approved you already???  Also St Raphael's is a Center of Excellence - 203-776-4677  Good Luck

Hey Pam....I am so sorry...how devastating....I have gone through a similar situation .....different doctor....I had everything done...went to see him..he told me that I did not need pre-approval...because I am on medicare...therefore all I needed to do was to lose 10 pounds, come back and he'd open his book and 'pick a date'...well, the next day I got a phone call telling me that they weren't going to operate on me.....(he was the only bariatric surgeon at the hospital that is in my town).....GOD....I was so close!!  SO, I chose Dr. Barba....you have a ton of appts. ahead of you....cardiologist, pulmonologist, yadda, yadda, yadda...these weren't a requirement of my first dr. so I kind of thought of them as a HUGE pain in the you know what.....well.....after going through all of the appts....I am so glad that he required them of me because now I KNOW for sure that I have a good heart, my lungs will pull me through the surgery, the nutritionist is one of THE BEST people I have met so far, and I have it in writing that I am 'ahem'....SANE......my surgery is July 30 and I thought it would take FOREVER ....but it just gives you a wee bit more time to prepare yourself.....start exercising...walking do whatever you can do...it will help you in the healing process......................when you go to the presentation....you will get a packet of info....all of the required appts. that you will need even BEFORE you can get an appt with Dr. Barba........I got my hands on the packet from a great friend that I have met on here......and made the appointments and had them finished before I even went to the presentation...don't give up...you know EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON....this may just be a blessing in disguise my dear.....I know you go to church...so you know that God has a plan for you....and this is it..........maybe you just weren't supposed to have that other dr.!! Hello Laura First I want to say thank you for the kind and encouraging words, I do have to be honest about something yes I do go to church but not for me , for my children mainly my son wanted to start so he could make some friends and has its a wonderful church , I am trying to have the faith I had a LONG time ago but I have been through so much in my life in the past 15yrs that makes it differcult to  believe in anything anymore or anyone. I am hoping this weight loss support group I am starting will help me some how, I am going to make all the apt's so I am up on what I need for when I go to the seminar but I am going on a family vacation to TN from the 14-258th of July.. you will be having your surgery on the 30th...July is a busy month for my my daughters b-day the 29th, my son's b-day the 31st....and this yr I am planning my DH 40th surprise party which is the 4th of August....LOL and then I am last with mine on the 12th.....LOL now since I am going to see these Dr's on my own how do I get a referrel even though my insurance doesnt need it so do I just call ?
