Pre-op appointments question

I have started getting all of my pre-ops appointments and I think something sounds a bit off. The cardiologist says that they want me to give them an estimated surgery date. I told them that I would hope for the end of August/ Sept. So they just gave me an appointment for Aug 14 for my tests. They said that they would move it up if the surgery date is sooner. They say they like to do the tests right before the surgery not too far in advance. I already had an EKG and Echo cardiogram through my PCP. I know that Dr. Barba won't give me an appointment until my tests are sent in through my Cardiologist, unless he will accept the results of the tests my PCP had attained. Any advice on what I should do? I am under 35 and have no co-morbites.

I would tell the cardiologists office that your doctor needs your test results before they will give you a surgery date, Bring your EKG and Echo test results with you to the cardiologist, they may still want to do other tests but they can review these first.  Yes, Dr Barba will want you cleared through a cardiologist before scheduling your surgery. All the best Sher

Hello - Congratulations on making the decision to make a positive change in your life!  Sher is right - call the cardiologist up and tell them you need the first available appointment because the doctor doesn't give the date for surgery until all testing is complete.   Best of luck!

Not sure who you have as a cardiologist but I opted to take the ones Dr. Barba recommneded and he had everything done within 30days of initial contact.

I went with Dr.  Thomas Freund at St. Francis.  Due to my weight, age and chest pains, he suggested the 2day stress test which was painless let me tell you but it was done in under 30days from initial contact to Dr. Freund's office.  He works closely with Dr. Barba and knows exactly wat Dr. Barba wants done... I would say to look into seeing him if its not out of your way and incovenient for you.
