Hello Folks, I am new here. I came here once before, but ended up not having the surgery since I moved. But now I am in the process of being approved at Danbury Hospital with Dr. Zuccala. I know I got a lot of support here before and am hoping to again. I would love to have an angel if anyone wants to volunteer. Otherwise, I will just enjoy all the support on the posts here. I have not heard too much from people who are a year or more out and I was wondering about the success of those people. I know the first year is like the honeymoon period where you lose like crazy, but what about after that. What are the percentages of people who keep the weight off for long periods of time??? And is there any complications a long way down the road?? Thanks for listening. Mousie

Hi and welcome. I'm only 5 weeks post op, so can't speak personally for the long term, but I read the rny board daily and it seems that the people that are successful many years out stick to the pouch rules for life, like protein first, not drinking with meals, protein first, exercise, etc. and the people that fail are the ones stop doing the above. Where are you in CT? I'm in the Middletown area. Nice to meet ya!

We have a good sized long term support group at Norwalk Hospital. Many of us have kept most of our weight off for years. Some studies have the number at about 75% of people will keep at least 2/3 of their weight off for more than 5 years.

Hi Janet, WELCOME!! Hope you stay this time. I don't always post but I read faithfully because there is so much information here. I am 18 months out. I have lost 135 pounds. I have been at the same weight since October 2006. I have not gained or lost. I just stopped loosing and stabilized. I am very happy with the loss. I would of loved to loose about 20 pounds more BUT if this is where I am supposed to be, so be it. 135 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. I just eat what I need to and I don't over eat. My pouch knows when it has had enough. I don't eat anything with sugar. I don't drink any soda of any kind. I do lots of protein and lots of water, ice tea, or flavored water. I don't want to gain after all I have gone through to get where I am. It feels great to shop in a normal store and the XX large section. And I am wearing a bathing suit!! I am going on a cruise next week and I will be on the bea*****ozumel!! I wish you success in your process and hope to see you on the loosing side soon. Hugs, Sarah
