Hello everyone, I am post gastric bypass, 5 months. I used to have the thickest hair before surgury. Now I am losing it like crazy. It is so thin that it is starting to scare me. Will it come back? Will it stop falling out? I am taking my vitamins and b-12 every day. Any suggestions? PLEASE. Thank you, Dianne

Hi Dianne, Are you eating all of your protein everyday? Make sure to get in at least 60g of protein per day - try to get as close to 80g as possible. The only thing I have heard that may help is Biotin, which is a supplement that you could probably get from a healthfood store. From what I hear, your hair will grow back. Good luck... Michelle

Hi Dianne, don't despair. Yes, hair thinning and loss is a very common side effect of the surgery and very rapid weight loss. Your body system has been shocked and will need time to recover. My hair loss was very startling but I did whatever I could to abate it. I am 3.5 years out and I still take a daily supplement of Hair, Skin & Nails - its over the counter at WalMart, costs about $6 for a 100 day supply. It has a lot of Biotin in it. I also shampoo with something called Nioxin - you can purchase it at any salon; it encourages hair growth. These two things, plus time and patience, brought my head of hair back to life. It's still thin, but it's shiny and healthy. Also, Michelle is right on about the protein - make sure you are getting 60-80 grams of good, healthy protein a day. Take all your other vitamins as required, and drink at least 64 oz. of water a day. These are the things you can do to help control the situation. Best of luck, and congrats on your success thus far! M.

Don't worry! It will slow down. Mine started about 6 months post op and went to about 8 months.... I haven't heard of too many people that didn't have a good amount of hair loss. The Nioxin is great. I used it too. You also might want to go get a cut with long layers ... this helps hair look thicker. Don't stress though.... eat your protein, get in your vitamins and just go with the flow.... it will grow back. Hugs, Chrissy

I don't want this to sound pitchy just want to share what is out there. Arbonne is a Swiss company that has products that deliver amazing results for skin and hair. I use the skin care line to minimize loose and very dry skin (and help with wrinkles too). Often times with WLS there is hairloss. My hair runs thin naturally ( perhaps the only thing on my body that does) so I have been using the THERMAL FUSION FOR HAIR and my hair has really thickened up. I discovered Arbonne about a year ago and am so glad I found quailty products that really do what they say they will do. If you have any questions or comments please let me know. If you would like a sample of the Hair fusion or Skin Care line please contact me and I will send you one. www.purebeauty.myarbonne.com God Bless You Wendy
