Hello There, I have had the lapband 13 days ago today. My problem is everything is going good except I am not able to go to the bathroom #2. It has been 4 days and I have been getting in all my liquids and folowing the plan, has anyone else had this problem and can give me some advise. I am trying to not panic but really seems to be on my mind alot. Thanks Sherry

Well, I'm not a dr. but a lot of people seem to take Benefiber for this problem early on. Best of luck-Jen

I don't blame you for it being on your mind and you're smart to be thinking! There is liquid stool softener (colace) available at the pharmacy - it tastes really bad - there is also Milk of Magnesia that can help - either would be fine - just make sure you have a movement because it is important - if the colace or the MOM doesn't work get an enema - - you can also always call your doctor and find out what s/he recommends...... For the life of me, I don't understand why this is not something all surgeons discuss with their patients - the anesthesia after surgery is usually the root cause of many cases of constipation, yet I've never had a nurse or doctor say anything about this to me from any of the surgeries I've had - not that I've had a lot of surgeries but I have had several - I had my gall bladder out and I had knee surgery and I had a c-section - I never received any advice from the medical community - but I did get advice from my mother based on her own experience. Anyway- best of luck to you! Best Regards, Tammy

Tammy is so right about this! Serious constipation is very common after WLS - I still have to take Colace a couple of times a week or I'm in big trouble. I also use a sugar-free fiber supplement when I have protein shakes. Sherry, take care of the immediate problem by taking some Milk of Magnesia and then consult with your doctor about what you can and should be doing (at your stage) to help things along. You are so early out of surgery, you want to make sure you're working with your surgeon on this. Take care, I'm thinking good thoughts for you! M.

Thank you all so much for responding and trying to help me out. I got some colace and now am not in trouble any longer. Such a relief. I knew this would happen but I wasn't so sure this early in the game that it would block up so fast. Thanks to my new friends I am O.K. Went for my 2 week checkup today and lost 17 lbs. That is so exciting. I will write more when I can and again I can't thank you enough!! Sherry:-)

I thought I replied but I'm not sure if it went through so I will write again. I'm so new at this but trying. I went to the doctor today for the first checkup and lost 17lbs,(my 2 week)I also went and got some colace and no longer have the problem and feel so much better. I knew that this would happen, but I thought it would be longer in the game. But oh well got it now. Thank you so much for your time and advise and caring!!!! Talk to you soon!! Sherry

Hi Sherry, This is Annmarie, we met at Dr. Valins today. When I asked him about constipation he recommended Milk of Mag. The meeting with him did not go well. I am very frustrated with the lack of concern and ability to education patients that He and his office show. I am currently looking to find a doctor who will take over my case. I am not sure I can find one but will try very hard. I hope things went better for you. Talk to you soon
