Hair loss is not a side effect of the band. Your diet must be void of the right amount of protein, vitamins and minerals. Perhaps a talk with a nutritionist would be a good idea for you........... Getting the right stuff in your diet will almost definitely do the trick!! Good luck! Congratulations on the great average weight loss - you're doing wonderful! Tammy

I don't know about hair loss with the band procedure, but with open surgery, it's quite common. I was told it was a result of the shock to the system from surgery and a consequence of malabsorption. Be sure to be getting plenty of protein (talk with your surgeon and his/her nutritionist--they all vary in terms of individual recommendations). I also use a shampoo called Nioxin; you can get it at any salon. It supposedly encuorages hair growth - I don't know about that but my hair seems to be fuller now, however, I'm 3 years post-op. I would say the most important thing for you to do is talk with your surgeon and the nutritionist - and you might want to get some blood work done to see where you're lacking in necessary nutrition. Good luck! M.
