??Dr. Tishler??
OK...Here I go with another question....anybody have Dr. Tishler?? What do you think about him?? I know I have to go with MY thoughts about him...but this is just one itty bitty process of my collection of info about all of these different dr.s that are available to us!! Thanks so much for putting up with my series of questions..you guys rock!!
I don't think a lot of Dr. Tischlers PT's are on here. He is a very good qualified caring and dedicated surgeon with a good amount of expereince and a solid program. To boot, he's in practice with one of the most respected surgical groups in the state. You can research him and attend a support group or session of his in person and I think you'll find the same.
I APPLAUD you doing your research and checking out your options. I agree that Dr. Aranow is top notch, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't look at all your options and decide which is best for YOUR cir****tance.
Best of luck,
Lisa
Well...Dr. Aranow might be in the same town as I am...BUT he had "issues" with me...I do have insurance that will cover the surgery 100% .... I am a perfect candidate for the surgery, I did everything I was supposed to do for the surgery....and found out that I had an old bill for one of his colleagues for $613. We offered to pay it now...but it wouldn't make any difference......he refuses to operate on me...and he is the only surgeon who does this procedure in Middlesex....since I am on medicare I have to go to a center of excellence....now I have to start at the beginning.....I have tried to explain to the office...but all I get is that we weren't "compliant" ....so....here I am......looking for another surgeon...and IN MY OPINION the best surgeon in Connecticut wouldn't withhold a medical procedure that would greatly improve my quality of life....especially the one of a 38 year old mother of four who has degerative disease with bulging discs and is looking to have this surgery for a little pain releif and not just for cosmetic/appearance reasons..........
Uh- I actually never said he was the best surgeon in CT. I said I applaud you looking at all your options. Not every surgeon is right for every person.
So, I'm not sure why you sent me this reply. I assume you were feeling frustrated with your experience and wanted to 'get it all out there' as the saying goes. No problem.
I personally LIKE him. You, apparently have an issue with the office...that's fine. To each his own.
And, as I always say- one person's story is only 50% of two people's truth. So, your business with him is not my business, nor is it mine to comment about, especially not knowing the other 50% of the story.
As I said- I think Dr. Tischler is a fine surgeon (I mean that as in 'excellent', not as in passably good) with a well developed program. But, I remain of the opinion that not many of his PT's are on this board. Therefore- I responded to tell you so.
Once again- Good luck to you.
Hi Kathy. I just wanted to let you know that I felt 'that Dr. Tischler was not the right doctor for me. I came to him as his first patient when he started practicing here. For two whole years , he kept delaying my surgery. It was one issue after another. He didn't want his first patient to have so many co-morbidities as he was caught up in hospital politics. I began to think that this wasn't right. What did he want.......a healthy morbidly obese person? He kept telling me I wouldn't survive the anestesia and I would need to be in the ICU. Now, I have been a patient at Hartford Hospital for 27 years and all my doctors there were backing me up on this. After 2 years, I finally said ENOUGH! He refeered me to either Middlesex or St Raphael's. Dr. Aranow said he would only take me if I agreed to pay 800 dollars up front because I have Medcare and Medicaid. He does not accept Medicaid. He just seemed more concerened about money than my health. I then went to St Raphaels in New Haven were they would take my Medcare assignment and I wouldnt have to pay the balance. I was assigned to a fabulous soctor named Geoff Nadzam. I adore him! The program in Middlesex is the oldest and first bariatric surgical program in the state. They know their stuff! I feel as if I am very well cared about as well as taken care of.
Okay people lets stop bashing doctors because they want to get paid. This procedure, albeit it one that improves quality of life, reduces co-morbid conditions etc., it still is an ELECTIVE procedure.
If you were lying in the ER with a bleeding spleen and he were the on-call surgeon, needless to say Dr Aranow would perform life saving surgery on you, regardless of THE SURGICAL PRACTICE he is part of (not him alone, personally) having a policy about people who have failed to pay their bills in the past. I am sure Dr Aranow knows nothing of you personally, nor did he personally make the decision not to accept you back as a patient for an ELECTIVE procedure.
I guess this is a good lesson in not burning your bridges by leaving bills unpaid. Obviously if you offered to pay him now, you could have paid him before this....Surgeons have mortgages and car payment and kids with crooked teeth that need straightening too- no tto mention the ancillary staff that goes along with them, the nurses (ahem like me) the medical secretaries (like the one who told you no) etc., so lets not get "oh poor me" here.
I asked a simple question as you live in Middletown, I didn't mean to start a Dr bashing thread- Tischler is an excellent surgeon, I agree with Lisa, I was just trying to save you on gas....
