I am in need of a angel.
I got the idea for this from another post when someone asked hoe does one get an angel. My needs seem extensive right now but I also don't want ti appear to be so overly needy. So here goes nothing......................I live a lone and my family lives out in California. They are not supportive. I have friends here, but they are not to sensitive to surgery and morbid obesity. I live in Hartford and do not drive, This makes things difficult because my doc is Dr. Nadzam in New Haven. I have trouble finding people to help take me to appointments in New Haven , let alone be with me on the day of surgery. I did have my surgery last month and it is was not successful and will be trying very soon. I turned to my synagogue for help, but the help is sporadic. People say they are too busy to help me. I would really appreciate an angel to please bring me to appoinments, be with me for the surgery and just be there when I need someone to lean on. I feel bad because I had an appointment with Dr. Nadzam today and had to cancel when my ride cancelled at the last minute and couldn't find anyone to bring me. My surgery is very important to me and I know that is something that all of you understand. Thanks so much for listening.......................Marianne
Marianne, I can't help you with appointments but you are doing the right thing to reach out. I am confused - you say you had your surgery last month and it was not successful; but you also say "I have trouble finding people to help take me to appointments in New Haven, let alone be with me on the day of surgery." Have you had the surgery already or not? Sorry, I'm a little slow on the uptake here. You need to be very frank with Dr. Nadzam about your lack of support and inability to get to and from appointments. His staff should be able to direct you to how to get some assistance. No doctor should be performing this surgery on someone who is isolated and has no reliable means of support; they should be helping you get the help you need so that you can be successful as a post-op. Please give us more information. Take care, M.
Yes Lisa, I have had the lap band surgery and it was not successful and has to be done again . I tried the program at Hartford Hospital where I live and the doc kept putting me off for 2 years. He finally sent me to STRaphl's in New Haven because Hartford was not yet accrediited for Medicare. I tried the program at St Francis in HArtford and was told by a nurse practioner I was not capable of being a good patient because I had a weight gain of four lbs. I have found St Raphels's to be the best for me because they are a long and well established program. I tried Middlesex and was told I would have to put 800 dollars up first before the doctor could see me. Forget it, I am on Medicare and Medicaid and cant afford that. Bus is very difficult because of the cost and I have trouble fitting in the seats. I WILL NOT CHANGE DOCS AT THIS POINT! A taxi? You have to be kidding........That would be more expensive than the bus. Medicaid has refused to pay for my medical transportation because they say I have no business going that far away for MEdical care. I appealed there decision and lost the appeal.
Hello Marianne
I don't know if you have tried this already, but it is worth a mention. Have you tried Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford? They are a great group with social workers, homecare, they have a food pantry (all kosher), they take medicare/medicaid, and I am sure they can help with transportation. I work in the federation building so I am quite familiar with their services. They are a fabulous source of information and help.
Their number is 860-236-1927. I would suggest giving them a call if you haven't already!!
