A WLS Purgatory?
OK...I'm no longer the same person because I've been learning to live a post-op lifestyle, but I'm not post-op yet, either. I'm scheduled for WLS in 9 days. I'm in a kind of WLS purgatory where I don't actually belong in either world. Did anyone else feel like this close to your surgery date?
I've been maintaining my pre-op weightloss...but it's pretty close. So close, in fact, that I'm under my goal weight in the morning, but over it in the evening. Is this too funny?...I've thought of going to Dr. Aranow's office and photographing my weight on his scale the morning of surgery just in case there is a descrepancy between his scale and the one at Middlesex Hosp! Yup...too funny! However, I have continued to increase my exercising and I feel good about that. And Michelle ("ma belle") has been like a bright shining star on a dark night with her honesty and support. I'm looking forward to getting together again at the meeting Monday night (the 26th)...Michelle & I and our DHs. We're off to the Tuscany Grill afterwords.
Michelle turned me on to the UNJURY protein and I am SOOO glad she did. We both bought the unflavored, but I also got samples of Vanilla and Chocolate. They were BOTH SOOO FREAKIN" GOOD!! I mixed them in skim milk and was incredibly impressed at how absolutely delicious they were! My family members tasted it and thought the same. One daughter said the Vanilla tasted like a Wendy's frosty. Well, I don't eat those, so I can't agree or disagree, but I know I've found my post-op protein and that's all that matters to me!
Thanks for letting me vent, guys and gals!

Unjury is good stuff. Especially the unflavored, because we can mix it into so many things.
Good for you in maintaining your pre-op weightloss! That's great! Things will change dramatically when you go to get surgery, they won't NOT let you get surgery because you are a few pounds over. They know how it is. They know you did it.
Besides, it's not about numbers (really, despite everything we all talk about numbers, it's not), it's about how you look and feel. I bet you feel good! (In 9 days you might feel sore and yucky, but it'll get better!)
Congrats to you, you rock!
Hi Debra,
I have sworn by, and will forever swear by Unjury (especially the unflavored) for the rest of my life for anyone. It's medical grade quality and they started to make it when cancer patients weren't getting in enough protein after chemo/radiation therapy, etc.
The staff are ALL wonderful there and if you get put on an "auto ship" plan (which you can cancel anytime), you get an additional discount from them.
I used and still do sometimes, put the unflavored into warm (never use it in hot liquids over 130 degrees or you will get curdled protein!...thus comes the phrase, curds and whey!) bouillion broth (a great comfort food for me). I put it in and mix it up in V8 for an added boost. I put it in pudding when I'm mixing it up...I add some into ground beef (the family doesn't know) when I'm cooking it for a boost.
It's very versatile and works! I didn't lose ONE strand of hair post op. I love this stuff!
As far as your being in a kind of limbo right now...I'm sure it's normal. I don't remember being that way, but I know I was a bit impatient and antsy. I wanted the surgery done already and couldn't stand the waiting. I wanted to get on with it already!
I have known Michelle since the very first seminar back in April 2005. We met online the day after it and she's a wonderful friend. We did most of our support groups together and I'm so glad she's back amongst us and ready to be a big loser!
I hope that I'm as good a sounding board for her as she is for you!
From now until your surgery, walk, walk and walk...it's great for the body, the healing and the nerves. Drink water, water, and water....get in a lot of protein to start your body on a repair/healing plan. It'll pay off, believe me. And take your vitamins NOW!
Have fun on Mon. Michelle invited me/Bob to attend, too, but there's SO much going on with selling, buying and moving...Bob's commuting to Bradley Int'l from RI 3 hrs a day and Mon is the kid's CCD nite. We just can't do it.
But, when we're moved, I'll definately be in for meeting at the mall for some clothes shopping for you both!
Hang in there and write if you need anything!
And...thanks for peeking at our new house. We had it inspected on Friday and found that the roof needs to be replaced. It's only 10 years old but is beyond itself and we are now in talks with the owner as to what is going to happen. I hope and pray it's not a deal braker. I'll be heart broken, cause the house is impicabble condition beyond the roof.

don't eat salty foods a few days before the surgery LOL or you will be retaining water weight- I didn't get weighted pre-op in the hospital, but then again I lost 37 pounds when he only required 10....
Focus on the pre-op nesting stuff- spring clean early, get all your post op stuff ready- do all the laundry....check out a place like the six o'clock solution in rocky hill and do up a bunch of dinners for the freezer that your family can pop in the oven and cook for themselves while you sip those protein shakes post op....
Nine days will pass like nine minutes and you'll be in the PACU hollering for morphine before you know it.
Hang in there Deb, You will be through your surgery before you know it. That was smart to get the unflavored protien powder as you can use it in so many ways in different foods and liquids. I experienced a change in my taste bugs after surgery which I was told could happen. So don't stock up on to much protien flavored items until you see after surgery if they still agree with you.
Take care, Sher
Hi Deb, what you're feeling is perfectly normal stuff; get your ducks in a row at home, make sure you have what you need on hand and plan to be very good to yourself for the 1st two weeks after surgery, lots of rest and support. My best advice is to clear your head and be centered - peaceful thoughts and pay attention to what your body is telling you, what it needs. Rest, rest, rest, and walk, walk, walk; otherwise, do exactly what Dr. A tells you to do immediately post-op. I remember that I felt overwhelmed about not really understanding what I was supposed to be ingesting, how much, when, etc. Denise was my "angel" through all of that and she was so calm and level-headed in explaining it all to me, even though she was recovering at exactly the same time from her TT. We're in this together - let me know what I can do to help! Take care, M.
