Not Feeling Full???
Call me weird, but I'm not finding myself getting to that "full point" yet. I'm kind of getting scared because I had a protein shake this morning that was 8oz and I got through about 6 oz and stopped myself because I knew if I continued I might get sick, but I didn't get that "full sensation". I just had my surgery on the 12th, and talking with my brother who had the surgery last Sept and he tells me how he would get full on a few sips of water, but not me! And I hate to say this, after reading a lot of the posts on here, but other than being tired, I feel fine! I almost feel like I didn't have surgery at all! Maybe I am one of the lucky ones. I'm trying to take in as much water as possible, but I'm just concerened about not feeling full. Has anyone else gone through this? Is this something I need to talk to my doc about??
Hi Alyssa. Everyone is different, but for you, I suspect it's too soon for you to start feeling "full." Your pouch is still healing and the nerve endings have not repaired themselves to send you the "full" message. Also, the "full" feeling does not feel the same post-surgery, as it does pre-surgery. Again, everyone is different, but generally, you will feel the fullness up higher in your stomach, almost chest high and it will feel more like indigestion rather than a heaviness. You will probably start feeling your pouch fill up in a week or so. I remember when I started pureed foods, I ate a whole 8oz container of yogurt in one sitting and freaked out. A week later, I could barely get down 4oz. Definitely give your surgeon or nutritionist a call if this worries you... and don't be surprised if they say it's normal. Good luck! Patty.
Alyssa,
Please dont worry. Everyone thinks they are going to be the one failure from this surgery. Just remember, it's liquid you are trying to judge this on. You didn't say in what time period you drank it. You should be getting in at least an ounce every ten minutes (and thats a minimum) and for me I was getting in way more than that. The more liquids you can get in the better off you are.
Once food is introduced you will find it to be way different. I was only getting in 2oz per meal if it was meat or chicken and maybe 3-4oz of cottage cheese or that type of consistency of other foods. I would recommend never allowing yourself more than that for a long time coming. It will keep you from overeating. Hunger is not something you are physically going to feel, so keep remembering in your head that its your brain playing games with you.
Good luck

Hey, Alyssa. I had Dr. Valin, too. I also had the sae concern at the beginning. I was not getting the full feeling, but then all of a sudden, once everything inside healed (a couple week-months) your nerves heal and all of that good stuff..then one day it just hits you. It's a little weird..kind of like an odd pressure pain almost in the side right near your ribs. you'll feel it..trust me. Till then, jsut be careful and measure!
hello.... thats pretty normal with liquids, you can't stretch your stomach out by drinking too much, b/c you will vommit before you drink more then your stomach can hold. Your stomach can hold more liquid then food. If you can eat 8oz of food then your inbig trouble lol... i know it has been about 5 months post op for me and i can only eat about 3oz of food. Good luc****ll-
Hi,
Not to worry. I'm over 2 yrs out, and my biggest complaint was that I was not feeling full. As the time goes on, I've learned to stop when I'm satisifed. It's funny, I can eat allot during the day, and some nights at dinner it's all I can do to get down one meatball. Eveyone is different, hang in there. If you read my early journal posts, you will see that often I spoke of not feeling full.
