A plastic surgeon spoke at one of Dr. Barba's meetings several years ago and mentioned if you had a hernia they could throw in a tummy tuck (for insurance coverage). does anyone have his name? also, have you had this done, is it more painful with the hernia or a longer recovery period?
Also, if you don't get the hernia(s) repaired, is there any danger or pain. I'm okay now, except when coughing or sneezing
I don't know what Dr you mention...so I can't help you there. Sorry.
But, I can tell you that it's not really an isue of getting a tummy tuck 'thrown in' with a hernia repair... it's more complex than that. The insurance doesn't cover TT to begin with, then they're NOT going to pay for it in conjunction with a hernia repair.
Many Dr.s will do a TT with a hernia repair. If your insurance would not pay for a TT, then what happens, is you wind up seeing a fee reduction for the TT portion of the surgery, because the insurance is paying for the hernia repair portion of your surgery, whi*****ludes some OR time, surgical fees, anestesia, etc. So you kind of get a pro-rated price for a TT. Does that make sense?
All hernias are different and need to be dealt with individually, SOMETIMES a hernia can be a serious problem, and other times it's a minor inconvenience. So, some people are able to 'wait' on their hernia, if it's not serious. There is always a danger of a hernia that goes unrepaired getting worse. You need to speak seriously with your Dr. about yours and what you choose to do.
Good luck to you.
