Think I'm silly but here I we go....

Went to the seminar, most of Dr. Barba's staff was there.... Loved the man, he made me feel comfortable. Entire staff stayed to speak with everyone and anyone that wanted to ...... Getting good feel from him so gonna go to the next step. Filled out the intial papers... called to schedule all the tests I need. First up is the nutrionist which I get to see on the 15th... Followed by the cardiologist on the 22nd and pulmonologist (sp?) on the 23rd. I haven't been able to schedule the psychologist cause trying to find one that is covered by my insurance from the names the doctor provided... I think its also fear of getting the big NO you aren't sane enough. I don't think I'm fully sane.. there's no fun in that, but not a total nutcase either ;). I just gotta go do it.... stop worrying and get it done. Found out Aetna pays for the surgery (insurance threw work) but I must be pre-approved for it, no suprise there. So the I've taken the first few steps and here goes the next part of it all. I must say I'm not nervous, anxious or anything.... I just have a feeling that this is right. That I've chosen right. Had my husband look threw the information the doctor gave me; he couldn't come had to stay home with the kids. I know he is a little worried but he is very supportive and in his own words: Do what you feel is right, what you think is best for you. If you think this is what you want and need then let's do it. Of course my daughter is scared, worried about complications (I have an 11year old girl). Not sure what to do to help her understand its my choice and I think it iwll be fine. Okay, I'm rambling... I'll shut up for now .... LOL... Faye

You're not silly at all Faye - you're just a complete and total nut! Only kidding! You don't have to go to one of the psychologists that the doctor listed, you can go to anyone - I went to Dr. Rothschild I think - I really don't remember, it was very quick and painless. He asked some stupid questions and I gave him some stupid answers and we were done - no problem! Sounds like you are on a great path - best of luck to you and welcome! Best Regards, Tammy

Hello Faye I am having Gastric Bypass with Dr. Barba too!! I am all done with all of my appointments, now I just have to wait for them to call me to make the apt to see the PA. For the psych I saw Deborah Corkindale. She only costs $40.00. She was easy to talk to and I liked her. Her number should be in your packet. I can come across as quite crazy (seriously, I work for a psychiatrist and deal with crazy people all day and sometimes I forget how to deal with normal people!!) and she had no problem with me. Your daughter will be just fine,, I have a 10 year old daughter and I keep telling her all about the things we will do together once I am thinner. She is extatic. Good luck to both of you. Sue

I did find one that accepts my insurance... and yeah I guess I could go outside of the recommended ones... I'll get it done .... And yeah I'm a nutcase... what fun is it, if your fully sane... LOL... I like being just a little nutty makes things more interesting... but in all seriousness I'll call today and get an appointment scheduled no matter what. As for my daughter, you know... I didn't think to tell her about everything we could do.... I will have to sit with her and create a list of things we would like to do together once the surgery is completed and I start feeling better! Thanks for the idea... very good thought.

Congratulations on your decision. You will be in good hands. I had RNY last April with Dr. Barba and I have done well and have not had any complications.

Hi Faye, First of all, we're all a bit touched in the head. I know I am! Anyway, your husband is right, you have to do what's right for you. I was terrified, but if I hadn't done the surgery, I probably wouldn't be replying to you now. I have a 7 year old son, and I'm his only "real" parent besides Grandma, so he was a bit nervous. I explained to him that Mommy needed to do this or she wouldn't be around for much longer. He knew I had to take the chance. Now he can't wait for Mommy to be "skinny" He even drew a picture of me in my hospital room, complete with catheter bag-o-pee, and brought it for show and tell! I had my surgery October 27th of last year and I've lost over 77 pounds. I move better and feel better and am off all my diabetic medicine! I lucked out, no complications. The only one I've heard of from people I know who've had the surgery, is one woman got an infection while in the hospital. Otherwise, as long as you do what they tell you, don't eat anything they don't tell you to eat! Eat slow and wait until it's time to drink fluids after, you'll be fine. But you have to be in that space that's comfortable for you to make the decision. It's not a easy thing to go through, but now that i'm almost five months out, I wished I had done it sooner! Lots of luck and well wishes... - Leah, A.K.A. - Roberts Mom
