Hi, wondering if anyone can help me here...aetna has denied my surgery saying I haven't been fat enough long enough! OMG all my life I've been over weight what do they want from me! Anyway I need to appeal this, anyone have to do it before and how did you get approved? Thanks...BMI 57
I used to work for an insurance company in managed care and I know there are ways to get around this. First, you must appeal their decision. IT IS NOT ETCHED IN STONE!You will need a doctor's statement to base the need for medical neccesity . They may also have your case reviewed by one of their doctors as well. Find out from Aetna how do appeal. Let us know what happens.
BMI of 57 and they denied you - very nice!
Find out exactly what your policy states for you to have coverage and just follow the rules - my insurance requied 6 months of doctor supervised diet..........each insurance company has they own schtick you have to figure out!
Best of luck to you - don't give up!
Best Regards,
Tammy

Well, Praise the LORD! I have finally been approved by Aetna! Although they did approve me on June 29th, they haven't sent out the approval letter as of yet! That's Aetna! I had to hire Walter Lindstrom and Kelly Brown from California to go to bat for me...they are atty's and advocates from ObesityLaw. Great job they did since this was the 3rd appeal (and last!) for me. Wednesday the dr.s office is calling to give me a surgery date WOOHOO...hope it's tomorrow LOL
