I did it!
I told the sh that I was having the surgery. No surprise he got mad. I told him that it was because someone was paying for it and why make them pay more. He started in about money. I reminded him that someone else was paying and I would work more hours before the fact for extra money. Then he came to the point. He said he was afraid that I would die. He also admitted that he was worried that he wouldn't be attracted to me anymore since he likes his women to have meat on them. I told him I would never be a super model so that wouldn't be a problem. I also told him that Dr. A is the best there is and I will be fine.
Ok... progress.
On many levels!
You stood your ground and did not abandon your dream... nor your true self.
You gave your hubby the time to have the courage to let you know his true feelings.
This can be a bumpy ride not only for us.. the patient... but for our family members.
Sometimes it is harder for them to watch... we are there up front and center throughout the entire process (well, hopefully so!)
Perhaps now is the time for your husband to go to one of Dr. A's seminars.
Suggest that once again, see if he bites.
Re: the you will leave me fear. Very common.
If you exercise and do resistance training post op.. your body will not become weak and frail. You will become a strong and lean woman! Sounds good to me.
Bravo... baby steps.

Kathy, you are a strong woman, good for you to state your plan for WLS. As for your husband. He is worried about you which is totaly understandable. Some men really do like ample sized woman but you are doing this for your health and to help prevent medical problems that can occur with obesity. You will have to continue to talk with him about your feelings and encourage him to talk about his. Some men also may feel that if we lose weight we might leave them. They can have a difficult time adjusting to our changing bodies and we need to keep that in mind and reassure them that we are the same person and that our feelings for them aren't going to change.
Hang in there, I am sure things will all work out.
All my best, Sher
