I am without insurance and haven't been able to pay for drs. visits. my pcp said my iron is low and i needed a supplement but she wasn't aware of some of them not being absorbed by rNy patients. Does anyone remember the kind that Dr. Barba recommends? Also - does anyone remember the name of the plastic surgeon who spoke at a support group meeting a few years ago about tummy tucks and hernias (the tummy tuck can sometimes be thrown in when a hernia repair is done)? thanks

If you are a post-op of Dr Barba, I am sure that he would be helpful to you in your quest for the appropriate kind/type of iron. I can't speak for anyone else, but i would be hesitant to "recommend" any med (even if it is iron) Not to mention, Dr's often change their preferences for meds as newer meds come along the pike. Bevi

Why don't you attend our support meeting at Saint Francis in the Gengras Auditorium tomorrow night at 6 pm. We are having a guest speaker. Also Honore, Dr. Barbas NP should be there and maybe his dietician and the bariatric nurse coordinator Andrea. One of them should be able to answer you question. Sher

I had lap RNY in April 2004 and have been taking "Vitron-C" over the counter iron with the vitamin c already in it so we absorb it better. I get mine at CVS Drug Stores and it has been like a miracle drug for me, it has helped me so much and no constipation with it either - smile Beth

Vitron -C has been working for me. Its over the counter. I take it twice a day. It cast anywhere between $13-16 for a box.
