I'm feeling like a loser.. and not in the pounds way..
I am 2 months Post op, and have barely lost 40 pounds.. I feel hungry often. Did I go through this for nothing? How embarassing this would be if it didn't work for my fat butt.. I don't even see the scale moving...
I thought the best time was the 1st 6 months. I cut out most carbs.. and still nothing.
Is this NORMAL??
My SW was 280
CW is 240
Lap RNY 12-27-06
This is what I would eat.
Coffee with spenda and SF creamer
1 egg with some salsa and cheese
some nuts for snack
drink flat diet soda or water
lunch some fish
snack nuts
coffee again
dinner
either few bites of chicken or some other meats with veggies...
I think I'm not drinking enough water.. could that be it?? Is it the Caffiene?? I know I need to move my body more.. but I still feel tired and lazy.. its so cold... ((excuses I know))
Or am I just expecting way too much and should calm down??????
First off Liz, This is not a race. Everyone loses at their own pace . So relax and just keep doing what you are doing a far as eating go's. Now how about excersize. What are you doing to step up your metabolisim? That really helps speed up the weight loss. Be it just a bit of walking every day to joining a gym. Just make sure you start off slow and work your way up to a goal you have decided for yourself. Your still in the beginning of your "Journey" so just keep at it and all you want will come to pass. "Keep the Faith" girl!
40 pounds in two months is a LOT of weight - I don't understand your disappointment? How much did you expect to lose in 2 months? If you lose 20 pounds a month like you've been averaging that would be 120 lbs. in six months............
I say - calm down!
Also, I've heard that caffine should be avoided completely for the first 6 months post op because it impedes the bodies ability to heal. Caffine restricts your blood vessels (that's why it's so good for migranes) - you need all that blood flowing freely during the healing phase of a major surgery - but then again - this would be a good question to ask your doctor what he thinks about caffine post-op.............
You didn't mention how much water you're drinking so I can't comment on that - but if you don't think you're getting enough, then you're probably right!
As far as exercising, I am not the most motivated person in the world - but I can say that you are not that far out so give yourself a break - you will get there!
Best of luck!

Thanks ya'll for setting me straight.. I know there is NO way I would have lost 40 pnds in 2 mo by myself.. I just feel... well.. when people know you had surgery.. I swear they think you are going to instantly be thin...I mean.. I lost 40 pnds and hardly anyone even notices.. and I think that is one of my issues. And its my own. I just see people out at 6 months and lost over 100.. and I'm like.. its not going to be close for me... WAAAAA WAAAAAA.. I'm just whining.. I understand everyone is different.. but DANG, I WANT to be on the HIGH end dag-nabit!!!!! and I have nobody else to whine too that understands, so bear with me!!!
Hi Liz,
First off, congrats on your successful weight loss so far. You wouldn't have lost that much in a year prior to surgery, don't fret.
I didn't see anywhere in your post about cardio exercise. It is THE most important thing to do to get the pounds off along with your new eating regime.
Your body is thinking that you're starving it...so, it's gonna hold onto the weight thinking it's gonna wither away from the starvation..
SO, my suggestion to you is: Kick up your cardio to at least 20-30 minutes a day...get your heart pumping good and hard and you WILL see a better weight loss. It'll kick in your metabolic rate and get your brain thinking differently. Brisk walking is what I did and it truly worked when I felt I wasn't losing fast enough.
Also, drink the calorie free liquids..water, s/f stuff added to water, decaf teas, coffee, etc. Get in at least 65 gms or more of your protein in a day, too.
Keep us posted if this works!
Don't lose heart...we all went thru this. I also slowed down about 2 weeks a month around that "time" for me. Hormones.
