Anyone else have this problem?
I am one of those lucky people that can't have artificial sweetners. I get a headache from them sometimes and it's not just a certain kind. It just depends on how much I have I think. I haven't noticed any pattern other than artificial sweetners. And it's not just a regular old headache, it's a migrane. I am on meds for migrane prevention but these are breakthrough ones. I did ask Dr. Aranow if that would be a problem if I had the surgury and he said no but it would make the nut go crazy getting creative with the protein shakes. I have no problem drinking water since that is my main drink anyway.
I could not tolerate Equal- gave me headaches and exacerbates my depression in large amounts. However, have you tried Splenda? Splenda is derived from sugar. How about Stevia- anothe natural calorie free sweetner.
You will have to avoid pre-mixes post op- in the shakes. You may like what I found to be a favorite- Ihated shakes- I liked Lipton cream cup of soups- chicken mostly- with a scoop of protein powder.
you saw Dr Aranow? How was the appointment>
I have never heard of Stevia. I can't use Splenda. That is the worse. And no I didn't have an appointment with him yet, this was at the seminar. I still haven't had a chance to sit down and talk to the sh about this and make the appt with Dr. Aranow. My hand surgery didn't cost as much as I thought it would so we would still have to pay but I think I can have someone else pay for it since she wants me to get healthy. We will see. I love my hubby but he is just blind to what I need. LOL he needs it too. Pic will be posted of him in a few.
Stevia- will be your friend. It's a natrual plant extract that is used as a sweetener or sugar replacement. And, NO it doesn't taste like sugar...but it is sweet.
A protein shake for you I would imagine to be a homemade concoction, but not a big problem... Get UnJURY unflavored protein powder and add to it any natural ingredients- like fruit or maybe a little cocoa powder (unsweetened of course), and a little stevia and some FF or LF powdered milk and some water- then mix it in the blender, and you should be good to go. BTW- the FF powdered milk makes a big difference in taste, it creates a nice creamy taste, so be sure to use some.
You'll know how much protein you're getting because you know the protein content of the unjury powder and you add the protein count of the powdered milk on top of (based on how much you use).
Yes, it's more work- first experiment with what flavors and mix combinations you like best. Then, but you can mix the dry ingredients together ahead of time and keep them in little baggies ready to pop in the blender and add liquid, and you'll be good to go.
There's always a solution! If you figure this out ahead of time and bring your idea to the Nut. She will be impressed.
Best,
