Hi Everyone ! I could really use cheering up today ! I'm 10 days post-op and on the full liquids. The first 3 days of this food stage I was so happy and felt satisfied. I woke up this morning feeling very down; especially since my waking blood sugar was 122 and I really didn't have much of anything with carbs yesterday. I haven't had my Metformin since Christmas and sugars have been great ! Why am I feeling like this ? Please tell me that it gets better from here I also have one of my incision sites that has been leaking clear; doctor said not to worry but it is a huge annoyance. It's been going on for a week........ Thanks for listening......... Trish

is there redness or warmth around the incision site that is leaking? Are you running any temp? The blood sugar rise may be an indication of infection- or it could just be incidental- keep an eye on your blood sugars today....it will get better- the liquids post op can get momotonous but you are getting there- day by day- just keep plugging away!!!! Call the doc and demand to get seen if you are worried about the leaking incision

Hey Patricia I felt the same way around that time. It does pass--Are you off any other medications that might add to your feelings of depression? The key to mine was my Synthroid---but it's also common to feel that way after this surgery from the research I've done. In any case, it never hurts to let your doc know what's up. And keep your eye on that incision site--Trish is right-an infection can raise your sugar. Take Care!

I am sorry you're feeling depressed,,,,,, It is not unusual to feel that way so early post-op though... It gets better every day, just hang in there

Hi Trish: I had my surgery October 27th and four days after the surgery I would cry at the drop of a hat! So I and many others can understand. Yes it does get better! My surgery was open and it's still not completely closed, I have a small opening, about the size of an eraser on the top of a pencil, that still "leaks" as your inscision does. My first thought was infection so I went to my surgeon's office immediately! They said not to worry it's normal... I just wi**** would stop. I'm tired of buying surgical dressings! It all will pass and when we are thin we'll think of theses small annoyances as no big deal! If it's really making you nervous or upset, contact your surgeon. - Leah

leah- 8 weeks out and you are still leaking from a lap site???? As a NURSE- I'm telling you that is not normal- you really need to pressure the doctor into doing something with it.

I'm not a nurse and I thought 8 weeks of leaking is too long to let that go on - just doesn't seem right to me - I agree that you really need to get this taken care of right away. Best Regards, Tammy

Trish, things will definitely get better over time, don't despair. We all have felt the same way at one time or another. Continue to watch the leak, if the fluid changes to a pus like drainage, has a foul odor, you have increased pain at the incision site or you spike a fever call your doctor right away. Continue to keep a record of you blood sugars to see if they continue to rise from your normal readings, if so, as another reader stated that could be a sign of a possible infection. ( I am a nurse also) Remember, this shall pass. You soon will start to notice the positive changes that will occur as you lose excess weight. All the best to you. Sher
