Can you help me?
Hi Tiea,
I don't know anything about Dr. Barba's practice, but Momo had a great question - why the PA and not the surgeon? Also, was there a seminar that you had to go to first to hear Dr. Barba speak? What is his program like or is there one at all?
I imagine that if you're seeing his PA, you'll get your next steps from him/her. I know with Dr. Aranow, there is a list of things that he goes over with you. if he thinks you need (based on medical history) a sleep study, upper GI, endoscopy, cardiac tests, etc....he'll make you do those tests prior to surgery. You also have to see his nutritionist and psychologist for evaluation. He also makes you quit smoking if you do and lose at least 10 lbs prior to surgery. The nutritionist likes for you to be on a multivitamin PRIOR to surgery.
That's all I can tell you, but like I said, I don't know anything about Dr. Barba's practice.
Good luck,
Michelle
Dr. Barba's patients have consults with a PA I've been told. My consult was with my surgeon and then afterwards he let me know if I qualified for the surgery. He then gave me a list of a series of tests I had to take based on a questionnaire I filled out regarding my health. I also had an information session about the surgery and had to attend 2 support groups. After all of this my information was sent to my insurance company for approval.
I don't know if the process has changed, when I went through it - I went to hear Dr. Barba speak and they gave me a packet of information explaining all the steps they he had explained in the seminar. I went to all the doctors appointments then they scheduled a consult with Dr. Barba who gave me my appointment for surgery. This is the second note I've read that says people are consulting with Honor - have they done away with the meeting with Dr. Barba before surgery?
That just doesn't seem right to me........I would never let a surgeon operate on me without meeting him or her first.
Best Regards,
Tammy
Hello all.....to comment on what Tammy said....I have talked to a few people who say they are having the pre-op appts with Scott the PA. Honore is the APRN, and most of the post of stuff is with her. I totally agree......I would NOT have surgery performed on me by someone I have never even met. Sounds to me like he is overwhelmed. I have been going through my own issues with their office.
Best of luck to you, let us know.
