I have been doing some research and had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I am trying to avoid hair loss and in my reading it said Nexxus vitamins strengthen the hair and avoids the loss. Does anyone know where I can get them? I went online to the nexxus site and could not find it. Can anyone help? Thanks, Patty

Nothing will help to prevent the hair loss...you'd just be wasting a LOT of money for nothing. You may lose hair, you may not. I, didn't lose one strand. I took my CVS generic brand chewable or the Centrum and made sure I had at LEAST 65 gms of protein or MORE (I swore and still swear by Unjury..especially the unflavored that I added to broth and pudding and almost anything) It's medical grade quality and I used it constantly and I'm not sure why I didn't lose any hair, but that's the only reason I can think of. Vitamins (regular ones) and LOTS of protein. You can try the "hair/skin/nails" formulations of vitamins available almost everywhere, even Walmart... I'll do a check on the Nexxus ones for you..but I think you'd find the same ones for a lot cheaper... Keep healing, you're so early out. Don't worry about your hair. It grows back! I know that Dr Aranow tells people that if they're not getting ALL or more of their protein in during the first month, they'll more than likely lose hair. So, get it in! Happy Holidays... Paula

Happy Holidays! I am almost 3 years out and feel fantastic. I did all the things I was suppose to. Got all my proteins, vitiamins, water, you name it if Dr A said to do it I did it! I'm thrilled with my results. I started with hair lose at 6 months out. I tried everything under the sun to prevent it and to stop it. They didn't work. While I did't totally lose all my hair it was pretty thin on top. I am in menopause so that did'nt help matters hahaha us older women have to deal with that issue too. Years ago when I had my children they were born C-sections and I had slight hair lose. My hair has always been alittle thin and totally straight. I'd always get perms to give it some body. 12 months out the hair loss stopped and then it started to grow back in! That made me happy! But when it grew back in it grew in curly!!!!!! That happens to some people too. Its not something that happens to everyone but it can happen. I"m not only thrilled with my new thin healthy self but I love having the curly hair. It took me a while to learn how to style it and when it is rainey I dont' even bother cause it is gonna frizz up! I'm saving a ton of money on perms! good luck and god bless, pammy

Hey Patty- we are neighbors!!! I am in Andover. Congratulations on your surgery. If you ever need anything give me a holler- Hair loss is one of those thigns that just happens no matter what you do - to most people. Myself? I had none. Nada- not a bit. I had even cut my hair short in anticipation of losing some- nope nothing....LOL- Dr Aranow pooh-poohs the whole "it's a lack of protein yada yada" theory and says its totally post operative stress that causes it. (Physiological, psychological, emotional....all the above) Guess I am low stress even though it doesn't seem it to me!! So keep up the good work, follow the orders of the beloved Dr aranow (the all knowing weight loss surgery guru himself) and hope for the best. Worst case scenerio nobody really notices the hair loss on you because thay are too busy looking at your new svelter figure....not your balding head LOL.

Hey Patty, I have researched this too and have found thet the hair loss starts between 3 and 6 months out after the surgery and can be a result of the trauma of the surgery, the anesthesia, the rapid weight loss, the lack of vitamins or protein or any combo of the above. I havent heard of the Nexxus stuff but I am using the Biotin which is a B vitamin which assists in energy metabolism in cells, is essential for the intermediate metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats as well as supporting healthy skin and hair(from the Natures Bounty Lable) and many people use it post op to prevent the hair loss or at least the severity of it. I am only 2 months out now so I'm not in the 3-6 month zone yet but so far I have had no hair loss. I Use the Natures Bounty brand that can be found at CVS. 1000 mcg once a day. They have no real taste, just kinda chalky, so I chew them with my chewable multi every morning. I LOVE my long ,straight, thick hair and dont wanna lose it!!! So I hope this works for me! Good Luck! And happy healing too!
