Did you hear this????? What bias they have- we are throwing money at their country left and right to rescue their thrown away little girls and yet they put out these new rules....I don't know which part is most offensive the "no fat people" rule, the "no medication for depression" rule or the "no really ugly people" rule.....I know we have at least one post op board member who has two Chinese adopted daughters....and got them pre-op. I know many overweight women have trouble conceiving (I did then I had one and had a total of four over a five year period....) and they turn to adoption- to have one more door slammed shut...that's terrible. Dec. 19 - China has been allowing the adoption of children by older, single, and even overweight foreigners. But that may be about to change. U.S. adoption agencies say Beijing is tightening adoption rules, and requiring that foreign applicants be married, between the ages of 30 and 50, with a Body Mass Index of 40 or under. The rules also bar parents who take medication for depression or anxiety, or who have a "severe facial deformity." One agency says the rules aim to limit adoptions to "only the most qualified families." The move comes amid a surge in foreigners seeking to adopt Chinese children. An employee of the China Center of Adoption Affairs confirms the release of new guidelines, but won't discuss the details. They take effect in May. Many Chinese children adopted abroad are girls given up by couples seeking a son under Beijing's one-child rule. Others are left at orphanages or by the roadside by unmarried mothers or poor families. A U.S. Embassy spokesman in Beijing says officials are looking into the reported rule change.
