Hairloss?
Hello everyone, i'm new to this forum. I had Gastric Bypass a little over a month ago. I'm doing great and so much happier...i've lost 50lbs already however I found that my hair is thining, and falling out! I'm def. getting enough protein as well... I always make sure i do. Does anyone know of any suppliments or vitamins I could take to help my hair stay put!!! HELP!
Hi Kelly,
Congrats on the weight loss! I had my by-pass 17 months ago and in the process I lost quite a bit of hair and had a lot of thinning. I started taking 1000mcg's of Biotin each day. This definately helped with both issues. My hair stopped falling out and I could tell it has gotten thicker since I began taking it. The brand I take is "Natures Bounty" and I buy it at CVS. Just check with your Dr. or nutritionist before you begin taking any extra vitamins or supplements.
Keep up the good work!
Christine
Hi Kelly,
Hairloss goes along with having WLS. They arn't really sure why. There are some things that people do to try and slow it down, but really ... it is going to happen, unless you happen to be one of the lucky few. Mine started to be pretty bad around 3 months out and lasted till around 8 months out. I am now growing in the hair I lost and it is finally thickening back up.
All you really can do is make sure you are getting your protein and your vitamins. The biotin may help out some... but you will probably still see loss. Just don't fret over it. I found cutting my hair shorter helped out and go for a cut that has layers so your hair will look fuller.
I don't know who your Doctor is but I have Dr. Aranow and when I called his office Lois said not to take the Biotin and that it wouldn't really help anyway. So I know his office doesn't want you to take it. Just check with your Dr.'s office before you take anything new.
You can also try this shampoo and conditioner... this did seem to slow the loss down it is called Nioxin. I got it from my hairdresser.
Lots of luck to you!
hugs,
Chrissy
I'm one of the lucky few....LOL I even cut my hair pre-op in anticipation of losing hair and it never ever happened....Dr Aranow says it's the body reacting to the stress of surgery. Guess I handle stress well!!!!
Don't worry about it- everybody will be too busy noticing how skinny you have gotten to bother noticing you are completely bald anyway!!!! LOL JUST KIDDING!!!! It's probably more noticeable to you than anyone....don't fret it will grow back- my friend Tammy had hair loss and her straight hair grew back in curly- go figure!!!!
