Nervous about Dr. Barba as my Surgeon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been recenty going through all the testing, Nutrionist visits and getting myself prepared for the Rny surgery. I am very nervous about using Dr. Barba who I have signed up with as I have been reading alot of negative things about his office and how people are being treated after their surgery on the messageboards. I must say I am quite scared at this point. Any sugesstions for me as I am having second thoughts. I appreciate anyone giving me some advice. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
I had laproscopic RNY with Dr. Barba April 4,2006. I have no complaints with him as my surgeon, I had no post op complications. The one time I had a problem during the evening time he called me right back at home. I have been treated fine and I can only say that often you only hear the negative things not the positive. Have you gone to any support meetings and talked with post ops there? You will find more positive things there than negative. HIs office is quite busy and has made some changes in the last several months which might be the cause of some of peoples issues with the office.
I don't regret at all having had my surgery with him at Saint Francis Hospital..
Best wished Sher
I just discovered that it is almost impossible to find out if a Dr. has had privileges suspended as the medical community is tight lipped about that.
Another problem is the word Libel. Many of the people that have complaints can't announce them here with the Doctors name for legal reasons, especially if they have pending lawsuits against the surgeon, so be as careful in your research as you can and follow your instincts.
Kathi:
I have no personal experience with Dr. Barba.
That said.. this is what I looked for in a surgeon.
Here are some of the things I needed to know...
? How was I going to be treated POSTop.
? Would I have access to my surgeon via phone?
? Would the office respond to phone calls with concerns?
? How would they handle emergency situations?
? What was the office visit protocol as far as followup?
? What was the history of dealing with possible complications?
? What would happen if my surgeon was not available... other partners in the group to take care of me in an emergency.
Also.. I switched surgeons late into the game because I felt that the first surgeon was not for me. (He no longer is in practicing in CT). My point is that I did what I had to in order to ensure I was in good hands. This surgery is not like others. The aftercare is equally as important as how the procedure is done.
Good luck. Listen to what others offer.. then listen to that wise part of you... let your inner voice guide you.
Be well...
