I started exercising right away. I had my surgery Sept. 05 and I started going to the gym by the third week. Granted I did 5 minutes on the treadmill and went to the car and collapsed as i waited for my husband to finish. I have bad knees. They were so bad the the Othop. surgeon told me try P.T. or surgery. He wanted me to try P.T. first. Thank God he wasn't a money hungry surgeon. and boy P.T. really worked. They strenghtened my thigh muscles and calf muscles. Taking the strain off the knee. And if I don't do those excerisesa few days every week then the knee will start to hurt. so I would rather keep up with the excerises the P.T. had me do than have knee surgery. The orthop. surgeon is very happy with the outcome. I do the bike now for 30 minutes and the elicicle for 15 to 30 minutes and then I do weights and weight machines for the rest of the body. The skin is not shrinking but the muscles are growing. hope this helps you. koukla 338/186/? date of surgery 9.16.05 age 53 height 5'6"

Hi Deb, Fankly Start walking at your own pace. I had a bad Knee also and you will be suprized how much better it feels after a little excersize. Once you are comfortable walking start mixing in a few excersizes that you can do comfortably. The important thing is to not hurt yourself ! This is not a race. I'm sure as the weight falls off you will see the benifits of excersize and want to continue. Best of luck,
