Hi Amanda, I paid out of pocket for my RNY. Had it done through St. Francis Hospital in Hartford Dr. Carlos Barba is my Dr. For the procedure, hospital stay, operating room, & anesthesia it cost about $11,000.00 & that was with a discount for self pay. Hope this helps and best wishes as you continue on your journey, Mickey

Thats a relief, a lot less than I thought It would have been or even read. Do you still have to go through all the pretests when you self pay? I wasnt sure if they were an insurance thing or a mandatory for your Doctor. I was wondering if id have to pay for all of those out of pocket, but I would assume my insurance would cover them even if they wouldnt cover the surgery.

Amanda, Hi, I had lap gastric bypass on Oct. 16th, 2006 at Hartford Hospital. I self paid and it cost alot more than 11k. I had to pay the surgeon, who is excellent, Dr. Tishler, he cost $4217.00. Then Anestia was $1000.00 and then the hospital cost $16,000.00. I did just receive a bill for $132.00 for the leak test for radiology. That about somes it up. My insurance did pay for all my preopp testing prior to surgery. But, if you have a complication, like I did, you can get an extra bill. I found out on the table that I have a liver disease and they had to take a biopsy. I'm submiting that to insurance and they are supposed to take care of it because it has nothing to do with gastric bypass. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I'm here willing to help any way I can. Stacie
