could be a number of things....could be that your esophogous is tightening up, or you swallowed something too fast or drank too much of something and your pouch is "rebelling",,,,If the feeling persists, contact your surgeon, as it is really easy to get dehydrated at this stage...Now, my opinion of what it could be is just that, my opinion....based on MY experience....Remember, If something doesn't feel right to you, it can't hurt to call the doctor...Hang in there and good luck, Dorota

dorota is right - dehydration happens very fast so if you still can't swallow by early morning you should call your surgeon. He will want to know. It is always better to be safe. good luck. Koukla 338/187/? 9/18/05- surgery date

Dorota said it well. This new pouch thing is a whole new world. Not like anything we have experience before surgery. Check to see if you perhaps you might need to water down your shake to make it easier to pass through the esophageal area. That is where most of us get that feeling of being "stuck". Too fast.. too much ... too soon. I only speak from my own experience... but for some it is very similar. Early postop...it hit me...I was so UNaware of how I HAD BEEN eating that I more than likely shoved all my food down in large amounts per bite or sip and way too fast. I remember the first days very clearly still. I learned very soon that this eating thing was not about getting in as much food as possible, but about giving my body nutrition. (what an odd notion! who knew?) It felt like the twilight zone for me. So I "spoke" to my body each and every time as I sat down to feed it. I told my body I was offering whatever (at whatever stage I was at) as total nutrition and asked my body to accept it and use it well. That gave me a few moments to calm down and be more conscious of what I was about to do. And for the most part, it worked. I found that if I was nervous.. eating did not work well postop. Still does not to this day. OHM? So if it persists... please do call Dr. A. He has a nutritionist as well, right? Maybe you might want to give her a call. Hang in there... the first month is the hardest. And remember your pouch is like a baby's pouch... new. Towanda

try something different- try some cream soup- lipton cup of soup creamy chicken was my favorite at your stage- with a scoop of unjury. warm may go down easier. if this persists call Lois at Dr Aranows this morning and run it past her. If you are not vomiting up the shakes, if you eventually get it down and you are not having pouch pain, I think you are okay.
