Hi Everyone I am new here.I am thinking of having the lap band surgery the end of nov in Mexico.Has anyone else gone out of the country for their surgery?I am also having trouble finding a doctor who does fills in CT or close by.Any suggestions? Thanks.Happy to be a new member.

Hi Erin, I am new too and went to 2 different hospital seminars; one at St. Vincent's in Bridgeport and the other at St. Raphael's in New Haven. Both doctors do fills. I would be careful about having surgery out of the country. Who knows what kind of quality standards they have? What if you have problems? I would want to be close to my doctor. Go to some seminars and hear about each program. You probably will have to wait for the surgery but at least you will be near a doctor in the event you need some adjustments. I am beginning the process for the lap band. It is an exciting time as well as scary. Good Luck! Tina

Hi Erin, There are alot of doctors in Ct can do lap banding here. I am sure people in Ct who had Lap banding will tell you about their doctors since I am not lap banding myself. It will be better to have doctor in ct so you can go see your doctor for adjustments than going to Mexico. Please research your homework and ask people here. Good luck on your researching Kathy K

Hi Tina Thanks for the info.The reason I was going to mexico is I am paying for the surgery myself and the price seems right.I did research the doctor quite a bit . I wont be able to fly back for my fills.So thanks for the info I will check out st.Rapheal's Erin

Welcome Erin! I know there are a bunch of people who are self pay that went to Mexico for the lap band and are are thrilled with the results. I highly recommend you talk to people on that forum who have been through the experience. I would also call specific bariatric surgeons in CT to make sure they would be willing to do the fills for you - I'm not sure why they woudn't be - but just to be safe I'd check into it. I think some people actually return to Mexico for their fills but they might live a lot closer then you..... Best of luck to you! Tammy

Thanks Tammy,I have made up my mind and have my surgery date.Nov 30th.I am going to Dr.Kuri in mexico.He has done well over 2500 Lap band surgeries and I feel like I would be in good hands. I have also found a doctor to do my fills and he is local.His name is Dr.Aranow and I lots have had surgery with him on this board.Someone mentioned That I wouldnt have the support like you others who have had your Surgeries Local.Gosh,I hope that's not true.
