I found out today that I have gallstones. I need to have my gallbladder removed. This presents a major problem with time off. Have you ever heard of someone getting their gallbladder removed at the same time as gb? Joann

Hi Joann, I had mine done before my Lap Band surgery. I did ask about having it out the same day as my Lap Band surgery but with my surgeon, it was out of the question (and for a good medical reason). I ended up having same day surgery and was fine and back to work within a week. I was sore but never had to take any pain medication other than tylenol, but everyone is different. Maybe it is different if you are having RNY. Maybe you can have both done at the same time. I would advise you to ask your surgeon and find out what they think. Good luck! Nancy K

Hi Joann-- I had my GB on August 7th and Dr. A. removed my gall bladder at the same time. Have you asked your surgeon about this yet? Regards, Carol D.

I asked the PA about having my gallbladder removed during wls. She told me that Dr. Erlich likes to remove it before to reduce the chance if infection. I will meet with Erlich on Wed 22nd.

Hi Joann, I had to have my GB removed while I had my WLS done. Dr Aranow makes everyone get a gallbladder ultrasound to see if there's stones in there...Mine was full. If you don't have to have it removed with WLS, you have to take a medication for six months to prevent getting gall stones because rapid weight loss can cause them. It's not a big deal in addition to the WLS. Just another half hour in surgery or so. paula

Hi Joann, i had my GB removed one week before my surgery and glad i did. i was one of the people that seem to lose alot of blood after surgery and if i had done both at the same time it would have been more difficult to know where the blood was comming from. Jackie
