I am new here...............Help with liquid pre-op diet.
Hi everyone. I will be having my lapband surgery at St. Raphael's in New Haven by Dr. Nadzam. He has me on a liquid diet preop to lower my BMI from 64 to 60. I have been using Glucerna and Slimfast Optima. The Slimfast is much cheaper. Other liquids include Crystal Lite, tea, water, and soup made from low soduim bullion and beaten egg. Any other suggestions? I am limited financially.
Hi Marianne,
When I was on my liquid diet, I ate a lot of sugar free popsicles - they were considered liquids on my diet (check with your doc first). It was nice to chew them!! The other thing I did was get Won Ton soup without the wonton's just to have a different kind of broth. It was pretty cheap and I had a few meals from it. I was not allowed egg.
The Nutritionist my doctor sent me to gave me a full list. Included was Isopure Protein drinks - grape, etc. that you can buy at GNC.
Again, I would check with your doc/nutritionist on any of my suggestions since every doctor/Nutritionist have different idea's about a liquid diet.
Good luck on your journey!

Hi Maryann! I am a little over 2 weeks post op and just got off of the liquids phase. I too am on a v-e-r-y tight budget! Walmarts version of crystal lite can save you a bunch of $$$, Sugar free jello counted as a clear liquid for me, Nancy's suggestion for the isopure protein drinks are an option too ($2.99 for a 40 oz bottle at Supplement City on the berlin tpke) Sugar free popsicles are a great option too. Call your doc, they'll know Good luck and congrats on the upcoming surgery!
Wow,
Must be tought to stick to a pre-op liguid diet...
But a simple addition to mine was simply smart milk...I was not crazy about protein drinks, and simply smart milk has more protein than regular milk...The sugar free popsicles already mentioned are great to snack on....
Welcome and good luck...
