Employers that cover WLS
Hello everyone,
I have a favor to ask of you. I need to find a company that has insurance
that will cover WLS. My former employer had Connecticare and they did
not cover WLS. I now have a new job, but their Blue Cross will not cover WLS.
My only hope of ever having surgery is to get a job with a company whose insurance will cover it. Until then I remain a Perpetual Pre-Op. I have 2 doctors that say it is
medically necessary for me to have the surgery, I have met with the surgeon and had my pre-op physical, I have attended all the required meetings. It is really depressing to have come so close and yet it is now but a far away dream.
Does anyone that has had the surgery know if their company is hiring?
I am a purchasing agent/buyer, but I also have an extensive accounting background and am a full charge bookkeeper.
I will be at the halloween party with resumes in hand
Hi Rich,
If you can get a state job, you're golden. I work for Aetna (please don't hurt me!) and my insurance will only cover 50% of the surgery. My husband works for the town of Wallingford and his insurance (Anthem BCBS) covers the surgery with (I think) only a $15 copay. There is also no waiting period like there is with Cigna & Health Net. Well, I guess with those ins. companies, you need to document that you're under the care of your PCP for exercise & nutrition for 6 months before you can even submit for approval. Aetna has a 3 month requirement if you are involved in a nutrition program with your surgeon.
Good luck to you. Also remember that if you can't get your insurance company to pay for it, there are loans and no interest credit cards that you can get. I know it's not the best option, but it is an option.
Let us know what happens!
Michelle
Rich:
Have you tried the "Insurance help" Forum? Couldn't hurt . . .

And you don't want to work where I do . . . they've got Connecticare, and I KNOW that they suck!
Hi Rich,
I work for Travelers Insurance. They have BCBS of MN and it was covered. It all depends if they company supplying the benefits buyes into the rider that will cover the surgery. Lots of luck to you!
Hugs,
Chrissy
p.s. we always have openings and you receive benefits the day you start working.
Hey Rich,
There are obestiy attorneie you should seriously think about inquiring about. Check with Amy Williams here on the OH Site. She knows alot about different resources to appeal the insurance and fight them.
You should not leave your job just for the insurance, there are so many people out there looking for jobs and having a very difficult time with it. You should be very grateful you have a job. I hope I dont sound to condisending, its just when I hear this I get alittle disturbed.
I know you want to have this surgery and that is wonderful, we are all pulling for you and hope it works out. You need to fight this with every fiber in you. Go after them with letters, attornies, whatever you can do. Contact all your legisatures too. This will help others in the long run.
Okay I will get off my soapbox. I work for the Town of Orange and if I hear of anything I will let you know. Municipalities are the best when it comes to insurance we are covered by a union too. My insurance covered the whole procedure. So check in Blue Cross Century Preferred.
GOOD LUCK KIDDO, see you tonight at the party.
Hugs
