I had the lap Band on Aug. 1st and have type 1 diabetes. Although my insulin requirements have been cut in half, I will never be rid of diabetes (not that anyone is - it might be under control). Type II is different, most I know are either off all meds or down to taking one med. Hope this helps, Nancy

My daughter is type 1 since age 7, she is now 23. Last month she got an insulin pump and absolutely loves it, her sugars have been 120 or under since.

Hi Linda, I can only speak for myself. I thought I was going to go band route but ended up with RNY for that exact reason. I was boarderline type 2 on metformin. The type 2 was brought on by bad PCOS. Since surgery I haven't had symptoms of diabeties like I did and my PCOS is no longer an issue. Do your research. and ask lots of post-ops. Not everyone is the same but if you can gather thougths from all of them you should be able to come up with a more educated choice. Hugs, Chrissy
