Help - problems (maybe TMI)!
I am not new - just returning. If you are curious my name used to be MobMama, but I had to register all over again.
Anyway, my RNY was January 2005. Lately I have had some very specific problems that I didn't have immediately following the surgery. When I get really constipated and cannot make it it to a restroom or don't have access to one, I get extremely nauseous and sometimes even vomit (the only time I ever vomit).
Also, I have been on antibiotics lately for something completely unrelated, and the pills are large and seem to "wedge" themselves above my pouch - I get nauseous and I burp when this happens. Does this sound like a stricture of any kind?
I have not been to my surgeon in a year - and I never go to my regular doctor, either - (flame away). Please tell me what you think....
Thanks, Melissa

Hello Melissa
You would crushed this pills and put them into SF pudding or applesauce . I would like you to research to look for another Gastric bypass surgeon as regular checkup and it is important to keep update check up with your future gastric bypass surgeon who can take care of your health and also looking into PCP doctor too. If you tell us where the town you come from and I am sure people here will share list of PCP doctors for you.
Take care

Hi there,
No followup for the first year post op??? what kind of Dr would let that happen? there are all kinds of things they should be watching for, including your labs as well as givign you on going support. Please get in touch with your Doctor, or another and get checked out for this!
Is that antibiotic vailable in liquid form? i know some of them are HUGE.... (gag...) .
Good luck and please take care of yourself : )

You don't say how often you get constipated, so it is tough to figure out if you have any sort of blockage. Plus, you don't reference any pain which usually accompanies a blockage (but, we're not doctors, so all we can do it apply our experiences with blockages to your report).
You probably should have told the doctor that prescribed the large-pill antibiotics that you are a gastric bypass patient so that you could have been given a liquid form. Many antibiotics can give you gastritis, so you should be a little more cautious.
As for having a stricture, I've never heard of nausea while constipated as a symptom of a problem with your pouch-- it could be a sign that you are dehydrated.
Listen, I don't think people are going to flame you about avoiding your surgeon or PCP- obviously you know that it's your responsiblity to make follow up appointments (or to find a new bariatric physician if your surgeon has returied or moved), and I think that most of us know that nothing we say will motivate you to make that call. But, you should appreciate that long-term success rates are vastly improved among patients who maintain follow-up appointments with their surgeons and who involve other health care professionals in their after care.
