Has anyone had LAP BAND after Roux N Y?

I had Roux N Y surgery almost three years ago. My surgery was a tremendous success in the I began at 458 lbs and I have now maintained a weight of 250 lbs for about two years. That being said, I still weigh 250 lbs, have a BMI of 40 and I am still considered OBESE on all those important government charts. Has anyone out there had LAP Band performed after Gastric Bypass surgery? I understand it can be done. HELP!!

I've heard of people getting revisions to their RNY after surgery, but not getting a lap band afterwards. I'd check with your surgeon or other surgeons in the area and ask. As long as you're not gaining, that's great. Do you see your program dietitian on a regular basis to make sure you stay on track with your eating? Do you see your surgeon as well? Talk to them about what's on your mind. Paula

The problem with adding a LapBand to an RNY is that the pouch is already small, so there is little advantage to trying to make it smaller. If there are no anatomical defects that are not facilitating continued weight loss (like a staple-line disruption if you weren't transected, an enlarged stoma or a stretched pouch), and your doctors have ruled out any other issues, you might want to talk to a surgeon who could revise you to a DS, which is the most common procedure for RNY's to be converted to when weight loss success is not stellar. Good luck in making the decision that is best for you.

Donna: I don't know anyone who's had it done, but it's been done. Head over to the Lapband board, and post your question there. It has been posed and discussed several times. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/a,messageboard/board_id,5359/ Bette
