I am pre op and have poly cystic ovarian syndrome. I am wondering, from those who are post op with PCOS- did you symptoms of PCOS diminish or go away after weight loss? Or do you still need to deal with them? I am talking aobut things like the acne and facial hair type symptoms... Thanks, Sheila

Well my first pregnancy cleared a lot of my PCOS symptoms- internallly- and I continue to be regular 9 years after the first child was born. but I still had bad acne and facial hair. Since the surgery my skin is much clearer, not sure if its a better diet and the hormonal changes together, but it has really cleared up a lot. The facial hair was still a problem, so I went to MedSpa 1064 in Glastonbury and am getting Laser hair removal - it was about $900 for a total of 5 treatments. I feel and look 100% better- the difference is super. I don't have to shave anymore or be self conscious about my face.

Unfortunately only some of the symptoms of PCOS go away with weight loss - other stay behind like the facial hair and the skin tags - but irregular cycles usually get regular and acne goes away! I'm also going to get the laser hair removal and going to a determotologist to remove the skin tags - although I tried painting one with clear nail polish every day and after about a week it dried up and I was able to just yank it off really easily (I read about it in Dr. Gott's column in the newspaper). Good luck to you! Sorry you too have to deal with PCOS - it's not a very nice affliction to deal with in our lives, but it could be worse.......... Tammy

Thanks Ladies, As I wrote to mom of 4, I had the laser hair removal and finished up in early 2004. Unfortunatly after having my daughter this year (January) it seems that the facial hair is back and with a vengence. I am getting it on the sides of my face now too, where I never had it before. I called the laser hair place and they said they do not "guarantee" it stays away especially if you have a hormonal shift like that. Bummer, but that was my last little one, am all set now and will do the laser hair thing again, when I can afford it. They do 3 "areas" (upper lip/chin and neck) for $300 a session, and for me it took 4 sessins... we clear for close to 2 years before having her... Sheila
