PERSONAL OPINION COMING YOUR WAY---> Ummm, could I possible agree with Cheryl any MORE? It's no bargain or deal to use your surgeon just because he can do it at the same time as your hernia, or anything else that might be a reason. Just as you wouldn't let your cosmetic surgeon do your gastric bypass (or the like), you really should reconsider letting your bypass Dr do your cosmetics. ESPECIALLY if you have fairly major work to be done. Let's face it PS for most of us as postops is not a little 'nip, tuck' situation, we need major reconstructive work, and to leave that to someone who is not expert in it, only 'experienced' or 'qualified' is not a good idea at all! Ther is nothing worse than botched or half @ssed PS to have to be stuck with for the rest of your life. Not to mention all the expreicene you need and follow up that ie necessary for preventing and addressing complications from PS which are very different from the complications from general surgery! If you need a reference to someone in the hartford area who is OUTSTANDING and expert at reconstructive plastics, see Dr. Charles Castiglions ot of CT Surggical Group in Hartford. He's a good place to start. Do try to get more than one PS opinion though. END OF PERSONAL OPINION! Good luck to you.

Thanks for the opinions, as far as bashing Barba, I did not post waiting to hear if he is a good surgeon or not. I too had my surgery with him and am very happy. It always interests me what people have to say when it comes to negativity, is it directly a reflection on his skills as a surgeon, or simply they did not get the results they hoped for or other issues. I have gone for consults with two highly recommended plastic surgeons, one of which will do my boob job and possibly my tummy tuck. I also do not have 15,000.00 for plastic surgery and Barba is willing to fight with the insurance company to get them to cover the tummy tuck. I still have not made up my mind, this is the reason that I posted, hoping to get additional information from someone who has had plastics with him, not someone simply offering an opinion on what specialty I should see for my plastic surgery. I am educated and this is part of the process for me. Thanks again, Melissa.

PERSONAL OPINION ALERT!!!! 1) Plastic surgery should be done by plastic surgeons. Dr Castiglione is top notch, although I dislike Hartford Hospital (not as much as St Francis but close) Dr Goodkind (love the name) has gotten good press on this board of late. Dr Borkowski of Middletown has also been mentioned as good. I have seen Dr Castiglione's work on a colleague recently and she looked GREAT. As for my personal opinons on any specific surgeon - let me say this- I am a NURSE I work in homecare I have been a NURSE in HOMECARE for 12 years. I have personal and professional knowledge of every surgeon in the greater hartford area. I see all the bad outcomes, the strictures, the wound infections, the leaks, etc., I KNOW who has the HIGHEST complication rate, I know who has the lowest, and the best outcomes. I know who is competent and who is not. I chose MY bariatric surgeon based on real results, outcomes and the behind the scenes knowledge therof. There are OTHER surgeons who I would not let trim my toenails much less rearrange my intestines. If anybody cares to here my own educated opinion, feel free to email me.
