Newbie - Need some Advice from the Experts! Please help!
Hi Everyone,
Well, my surgery date is 9/12 with Dr. Nadzam and I made it through all the steps including the endoscopy.... So glad it's over!
Now I have to concentrate on having the right foods (liquids) in the house when I come home from the hospital.... Please let me know what is the best tasting already mixed protein shakes... I hate the bother of mixing, but if I have to I will........ So nervous about this - don't know if I'm coming or going.
Kim - It was certainly a pleasure meeting you in Orange.... Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.
Everyone have a Great Holiday Weekend. Appreciate all your input.

That's a tough one...You may like some protein shakes now that you will end up hating post-op....I think your best bet may be getting small samples of a bunch of different drinks....look out fo the amount of protein, fat , and sugar...I did not do well with atkins, as it had too much fat, and made me sick....
My saving grace were low carb yogurts and lowcarb yogurt smoothies....pretty much hated most protein drinks...now make my own, and dont hate them as much,,,I like the "anywhey" protein powder...can be mixed with anything and is pretty tasteless....I like it because it does not become "denatured" as easily as some other protein powders, and thus can be mixed with hot liquids....so You could add some to tomato soup, ,That was one of my favorites right after surgery, as I was so sick of the "sweet" tasting protein stuff...
Good
Luck on your Journey......
Dorota
Hi Dorota,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...... I never thought of mixing protein powders with hot liquids... I love tomato soup and will definately have the "anyway protein" in the house as a backup and change of pace. Still would like to find a good tasting shake...
Can't wait to get to the losing side of this journey.. Thanks again for your helpful suggestion.
Best Wishes

Morning Joan, After surgery I just followed the instructions given. Kept suger free carnation instant breakfast . Egg drop soup was also my mainstay and consumed it with a baby spoon to be sure to take it in a little at a time. Dorota is right about your taste's changing as you progress on your "Journey" so definitly look for samples wherever you canget them. Good luck on your surgery. Dr. Nazdam is a great doctor and I know you will do very well! Take Care
Hi Julio, Thanks for the advice. I do have the instruction sheet but was looking to stock up on some things and wanted to get the best tasting without going through all the brands....... I am going nuts in anticipation of this surgery...
Last week had appt with Dr. Nazdam - mentioned this board and your name as being a past patient of his. He then made a huge smile and replied"Julio is a great guy and one of my most favorite patients....." = Nice reference for you!..... Dr. Nazdam is a wonderful guy and I really feel relaxed around him...... Only trouble is that he is young enough to be my son!
Have a great weekend and thanks for your reply.

Hi Beth,
I just came from GNC in Derbv-Orange shopping center and found the "all-whey" I was looking for and also bought 4 different individual cans of the Worldwide Protein Shakes - 1 of each flavor.... Even joined the club there.... The manager and assistant manager are very nice people ... They told me I could return anything I didn't like and exchange it for something else until I find the right product for me.....Didn't expect that.
Now, I just have to get vitamins and I will be stocked up for the big day! I am really psyched! Thanks for your info.... I might stop down in West Haven at your store and you can advise me on vitamins.... probably next week sometime.....
Thanks for taking the time to respond.... I love this board - Everyone is soooo nice and helpful.
Happy Weekend - Hope the Sun decides to Shine!

Hi Joan,
The other thing I kept in the house (at Julio's suggestion!), was sugar free popcicles. They were a life saver for me. They counted as liquids and it was nice to have something to "chew" when I had enough liquids.
By the way, the Pure Protein shakes in the can (if that is what you have) are one of my favorite protein drinks. You may hate it!! Everyone's taste is so different. I was not aware GNC carried them - I thought the only place I could find them was Trader Joe's. In fact I will be making a trip to a Trader Joe's in West Hartford tomorrow to get some more (although I will call my local GNC before I travel!).
Good luck to you,
Nancy K
Hi Nancy, Looks like I will be trailing right behind you soon..... Sept 12 - can't wait! You seem to be doing just fine - keep up the good work.
The protein shakes from GNC are "Worldwide Pure Protein Shakes" - $2.99 a can - 35 grams of protein - 2 grams of carbs - in four different flavors...sales mgr said they were very good - Didn't try them yet - just wanted to get ahead of myself and be prepared.
I also have a Trader Joe's right near me.... Didn't know they carried that brand..... You can also check the GNC site for products they carry - that might save you a trip..
I will buy the sugar free pops and sugar free jello from Sams so I will be stocked up..
Have a wonderful holiday - hope the sun finally comes out today.... Joan S.
