I feel like chicken tonight....
Does anyone remember that add and song? Whatever happened to that stuff anyway do they still sell it?
So I just thought I'd share my chicken experience tonight - I ate it and it was FINE!!! Yeah
It's been a long time since I've chanced chicken because of how many times it's made me and slime - but I have to say that I truly didn't enjoy it because I was so damn afraid of it. Every bite was so ridiculiously small and I chewed and chewed and chewed and then swallowed with fear - I ate about 1/8 of a breast and it took forever - I'm thinking, maybe I should just stay away from it because I'm too afraid
Anyway that's my chicken story!!!
Best Regards,
Tammy
Don't blame you for being afraid of chicken. Me too. And I too, tried it tonight. I had a wing and a piece of leg and both went down fine. But then I pushed my luck. I tried a piece of breast. Even though I had cut it real tiny and chewed and chewed - I still had pain. I didn't throw up or anything - it just hurt. So the breast of off my list for good now. But I had no problem with the wing and the leg.

Hi Tammy,
Chicken tonight...I remember that stuff in a jar. When I was pregnant it made me throw up from the smell so never had it again!
I can eat chicken breast as long as it's moist with some type of sauce on it. Thighs are too stringy it either sits wrong or I throw it up. Legs I don't care for. Wings I can do as long as they aren't too dry.
For me it's pork..I actually kept down some pork roast the other night for the 1st time in ages. Usually it sits like a rock or I throw up so I don't bother with it.
Have a great day,
Mickey
Hi Paul,
Sorry so late responding. Each person is different. Steak is a really tough call. Some people can eat it like a champ & some people can't. I couldn't touch any type of red meat until at least 11 months out from my RNY. I don't have any problems now with it. Pork is the one thing that really bothers me. I keep trying to eat it though...LOL...
Turkey works well with me. Chicken (moisten), Fish, hamburger, sausage, a hot dog on occasion, (I really don't like them) corn beef, ribs of any type, I love beef jerkey..(something you definately don't want to try until you are WAY out in recovery.) Once your Dr. lifts restrictions it will be a "hit or miss" with what meats works for you. Try them in the privacy of your home before eating it in a restaurant. Trust me!
Tonight I had chicken & it sat like a rock...I'm 16 months out post op & there are still days where foods you normally can have doesn't sit well. Chewing properly is really important. If you don't chew your food it can reak havoc in your pouch with a very uncomfortable feeling. I find that if a meat is really "stringy" or dry it doesn't want to play nice with my pouch. Again, everyone is different & you'll know what to avoid once you get the hang of your new stomach.
The minor inconvieniences do not outweigh the benefits & I have no regrets on having the surgery 132 pounds gone forever...
Best wishes to you Paul on your journey & please give a holler if you have any other questions.
Mickey
Hi - Good luck with your endoscopy - it's a "nothing" procedure - real easy!
Anyway - I don't have a problem with fish, chicken salad if it's ground up really, really well, eggs, turkey kielbasa, sliced deli turkey, hamburg, bocca burger, - I haven't tried steak, roast beef, pork chops or roast because I don't like them. But everyone is different - you may or may not be able to tolerate various meats - only time will tell - I wish you all the best!

Hi Tammy,
I found that if you cook your meat in a crock pot it stays moist and is very easily digested. You can use different things to cook it with. I make chicken with potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and a can of diced tomatoes. It is so yummy and the family love it.
I experiment alot with meats because of the protein value.
But the crock pot has been my life saver.
Give it a try and let me kn ow what you think.
Good Luck, Sarah
P.S. Missed you at the support meeting Tuesday.
Thanks Sarah - I do love cooking in the crock pot - especially coming home from work and having the house smell of a home cooked meal - it's so easy! Do you usually cook chicken with the bones in it or breasts? I really am weird about chicken and don't eat it on the bone (I hate skin and bones on chicken - it grosses me out)......
Sorry I missed the meeting - how was the speaker?
Best Regards,
Tammy
