Need therapist specializing in eating disorders

I had my gastric bypass surgery almost three years ago and I have maintained a weight loss of over 200 lbs since then. However, I still weigh 250 lbs. and I snack too much and I eat too much. I need to find someone who understands compulsive overeating and someone who can help me change it. Has anyone seen any professional that has really helped them through?

Hi Donna, My surgeon is Dr Aranow in Middletown and he has a great Psychologist named Dr. Kim Daniels. I hear wonderful things about her. Also, Dr. Aranow's support group at Middlesex Hospital is very helpful. Try it out. It is on Mondays. Call his office about the schedule and to find out about an appt with Kim. She works exclusively with Aranow and his WLS practice.You should be very pleased with your success so far-CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are so much healthier now than before your surgery. If you wouldn't mind driving to Westport, I would strongly recommend Dr. Jim Wegner-- he is very experienced with eating disorders and has helped me tremendously. Like you, I wanted help to sustain my weight loss (300+ pounds) and knew that I needed some guidance to help keep those eating demons at bay. Plus, he takes some insurance which is also a plus.

you are right in her midst- Dr. Cynthia Wirth is right on Oak St in Glastonbury. She is the other half of the two psychologists Dr Aranow allows his patients to see for pre op screening, the other being Kim Daniels in Middletown. Dr wirth office is 633-5430. She's VERY easy to talk to- and I say that as a profesional who has trouble talking to other professionals because I know the "standard lines" She's not like that- and she specializes in eating disorders.

I will definitely contact her. I hope she is taking new patients.

I just wanted to say thank you. I have an appointment with Dr. Wirth tomorrow morning. Haven spoken to her a number of times in the past week due to insurance particulars, she seems very nice. I am looking for to meeting her and getting her help. I will keep you posted.

My suggestion is Mary Ziller. She is top of the field in eating disorders and gives us tools to replace the old behavior. I could not do this journey without consulting her on a regular basis. She is in Fairfield. If you are interested, I can email you her contact info. Towanda
