Hi all, I have a question. Has anyone in Connecticut, in the past 8 months, had WLS Surgery, covered by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, that has a small group policy? Meaning the company you work for 50 or under people covered by them? I am having a very hard time. And, if I can come up with some people that it was covered, I may be able to be covered. Somehow, hopefully. And I would also like to know how you got approval. Please let me know. Thanks, Stacie

Stacey, I had my surgery last year, I have Anthem Century Preferred. I work for the Town of Orange with not a very large amount of employees. My surgeons office did all the paperwork and I was approved right away. I dont know what plan you have, but you should appeal it, have all your doctors right letters and fight it. You may be able to find an appeals attorney who handles WLS too. Check around. Good luck and I wish you all the best. Hugs KimC

Hi Kim, I have Blue Care through work. But, Anthem is saying it isn't covered. I called my agent and he said it was for the past 3 mos. Today he calls me and tells me he made a mistake. In January of 2006, BCBS would no longer cover Gastric Bypass. So, I am thinking so many things in my head as far as what to do. About the insurance, the agent giving false information and hope. Spending money on all the doctors appts. etc. I do have options on what to do, but 25K is alot of money when you don't have it. So, I'm not giving up, but I'm getting discouraged. So, my agent asked me to find people in Connecticut that have been approved this year with the same insurance, so maybe we can find a loop hole some how. I'm hoping for the best. I have to say I'm not enjoying this roller coaster at all. Thank you so much for your help. Stacie

Hi Stacy, If you end up going the "Self Pay" route, shop around. Stick with doctors that you have heard good things about see what they charge. Have heard that self pay can get some savings as opposed to Insurance. Good Luck!

Julio, Thanks for the info. I'm going to start working on that this week. Still haven't heard from my doctor's office yet, Dr. Tishler. They are always so busy, I hate not getting called back, it drives me nuts. I will be checking Dr. Barba also, I've heard wonderful things about him also. Thanks again, Stacie
