I have an ulcer...

Well, it's been going on for two weeks now, and, Dr Aranow was gone all last week (so, that was a wasted week). The pains were like little knives stabbing me when I drank or ate anything. I spent one evening at Middlesex Hosp ER (after Dr A's on call surgeon called in orders that were NOT followed, a wasted long evening and 2 hr drive) with no results and the next day having an upper GI. I tried to take it easy all weekend, but, I was hysterically crying on Sunday and the phone rang and it was Dr Aranow. I told him of my pain and he said it sounded like an ulcer. He called in two scripts and I had to go in to see him at the office yesterday. I'm on a liquid diet for the next two weeks. I will say that I do feel a bit better. The pain isn't as bad. The liquid med (Carafate) coats the ulcer and helps it to heal. Encourages it to grow over and heal, as Dr A described to me. I'm also on dissolving Prevacid. I've lost 6 lbs this week already. That's a good thing! I'm lucky to have such a great surgeon. I couldn't ask for better care from Lois and him. The ER is a different story, though. I see Dr A back in two weeks and I BETTER be BETTER! We leave for vacation on the 23rd to San Francisco. I hope to be able to eat something solid by then, too. It'll be tough going out to eat and ordering broth! Paula

Paula - Considering all the things that were going through your mind as to what could be wrong and ulcer is probably one of the best because it can (and will) be healed with meds! So it stinks that you had to go through all that suffereing, but I'm thinking it's kind of good news that the doctor knows what is wrong and is fixing it! Hope you're well enough to eat for your vacation - how cool San Francisco!! (congratulations on the by product of all this by losing some more weight). Best Regards, Tammy

Hi Paula, Sorry to hear your still not feeling well but at least you got some answers to your questions and are on the road to recovery! You just take it easy and try no to stress too much! It slows down the "Healing Process"! Take care and "Prayers" you way to heal up quick!

it must be a relief just to know what is wrong. So now you can heal. and the 23rd is 23 days away so let's hope it's all healed by then. good luck. Koukla

Hi Kathy, I have to see Dr A that same day at 3:45 and will drive to L&M for the meeting. Maybe I'll bring him with me to show him how to get there!!!! (kidding) I know how to get to L&M, but, once I'm there, don't know where to park or where (what room) the meeting is in. Can you let me know where to go? And, what time does it start? Thanks, paula

Paula - I too, am glad that you will be feeling better soon. If you have to, you should ask the attendant on the plane to please grind up your peanuts. Wasn't it great Dr A called you when you were in such agony? hugs, linda

I was hysterically crying on Sunday and the phone rang and it was Dr Aranow See??? That's the kind of care I am talking about.....I am glad you are finally on the mend. Carafate will make your boo boo tummy feel better- the liquid diet sounds like a major bummer- but we know you can tough it out. I emailed you a couple of times- but you been ignoring me? Hurumphh- Stay cool. Feel better. Eat jello.
