Totally OT- Direct Buy anyone?

I figured that it'd be a good place to ask, but has anyone joined "Direct Buy"? It's a company where you can purchase just about anything from your home, directly from the manufacturers. My husband and I have been seeing alot of their infomercials lately and will be going on Sunday for their presentation in Norwalk. I believe that you have to join with a membership, but of course they don't tell you what it is over the phone, you have to go to the presentation, but at the presentation you can also browse through their mfg. catalogues and see how much the pricing really saves you. We are adding onto our house (which officially started today!) we figured that every little bit helps. Does anyone have any experience with it, or know anyone who does? Thanks for your help! Lisa

Lisa: I haven't used them but I've seen the ads on TV. The one that gets me is the guy who says he saved $65,000 on his cabinets. Damn! If that was what he SAVED, how expensive were they in the first place, and what were they made of - humpbacked whale bones and panda skins?! Bette

Hubby and I joined it about 7 years ago. It is VERY expensive (about $2500. when we joined) and I never ordered enough stuff to make up the cost of joining. Plus the prices may be lower, but you are gonna pay a very large shipping fee (even for jewelry) Only recommendation to actually join would be if you need to completely remodel kitchen and baths and need all new furniture. Then maybe it would be worth it. You said you are doing an addition, so pin them down on shipping costs for a specific item you look at in the catalog. They charge it to you and it's being shipped to them not you, then you still have to get what you ordered from their local warehouse to your house. In this day and age, no one gets something for nothing. Just my 2 cents Tee
