So I have been on a low fat, 1000 calorie diet for a week. The first week seemed to go so easily and now that I am started on week 2, I am really struggeling (sp?). I just need to look at the long run and how this will help me - I don't know what is wrong with me!!! I so totally blew it today. Tomorrow is another day and I will go back to basics. Breakfast is so easy, I am never hungry and eat cuz I have to (Diabetes). Lunch is fine as well - the cafe where I work is stocked with great healthy food. Dinner, that is my problem - no structure at home and that has to change. Running my daughter around and doing for others. And I HATE to cook!! Just had to vent a little - at least write it down so I can remind myself what my ultimate goal is!! Thanks for listening.. Nancy K

Hey Nancy, I used to make my meals ahead of time and put them in little glad wear containers so when the time to eat came had it ready to pop in the microwave. Gave me less chance to stray from the "Plan". Good luck and remember if you slip, dust yourself offf and try again! Goods luck!

Hey Nancy~ Ok... so a bit of a bumpy ride. As Julio says... dust yourself off and move ahead. A couple of comments/suggestions if I may... Once you are post op... get thyself to the support group meetings. Being with others who are on the same road is very helpful. Put yourself on Danielle's email list for the monthly meetings. Making food ahead of time is wise for we busy people. I cook all my meat protein ahead of time and heat as I go through the week. As Julio says, preparation is helpful. Mary Z says: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. So planning is paramount for successful post op life. Now as for we foodies doing everything for the rest of the world and putting ourselves at the bottom of the list... Remember this... YOU ARE IMPORTANT I have had to learn to make myself AS important as those I love and care for. Being a mom makes that a task... but doable. And last but not least... Dr. E will hound you! if you are not compliant! Babysteps kiddo... it's all about babysteps... along the path to COMING HOME to yourself. This is a special time... that time right before surgery. Many many emotions. Hang tight... stay loose... talk to your body... let it know you thank it for hanging in all these years and not giving up on you. Make a committment to it that you will stick by developing new healthy habits. One final thing... I have found that EXERCISE helps me stay on track with my food. Kathy K will attest to that one. Be well. Hope to see you around the support group campfires soon! T.

Hi Nancy... You can do it!! You're already half way there!! Just think of how much easier Dr. Ehrlich's job will be if your liver shrinks!! That's the whole point of the pre-op diet as I'm sure you know. Can you pack up a healthy dinner at the cafe where you work and bring it home with you? Or as Julio and Towanda said, plan ahead and package your meals for the week. We all know how hard it is to stick to a diet, otherwise we wouldn't have needed the surgery!! One more week to go and then you'll be joining us on the losers bench!! WOO HOO!! Now is the time to start thinking of yourself and becoming more of a ME person. Come join us at the Norwalk support group meetings...it REALLY helps to keep you on track and you'll meet a great bunch of people too (like our wacky bunch). Hope to see you there. Please email me anytime you need some encouragement or just want to vent...I'm here for you!! Kim K.

Nancy: Head off to your local Asian restaurant and order a STEAMED entree (with chicken, tofu or shrimp) with the sauce on the side. Add just a dribble of sauce or add one of your own. Just about every veggie is only 25-50 calories PER CUP, so that entire entree, with the protein, will only run you a couple of hundred calories. You DON'T have to cook, you'll be VERY full and still low-cal and low-fat. Bette

Hi Nancy! You're almost there! The 2nd week was hard for me too, especially with the 4th of July thrown in there for good measure... You can do it! It's so worth it... says the one who is 2 weeks post-op as of today! But you definitely need to plan ahead, it's a good habit to get into anyway with the post op phase early on. You're on your way! Thank you all for your great advice. I thought I was ready for all of this (and I still think I am), it just seems I didn't think about things like my busy life getting in the way. You are right about preparing ahead of time. A definite must for me. I love Bette's idea as well - no cooking!!! I am definitely on an emotional rollar coaster because as I read all your responses I got teary eyed that so many of you would sent your support and love my way. It made me realize I can do this but I am hard on myself and very disappointed that I was not more prepared. I am almost there - liquid diet Sunday and Monday and then off to surgery. I will be atttending support group meeetings and can't wait to meet you all in person. Danielle just sent me the support group meetings and I will make it to one of them!! Thanks again for being so supportive and giving me some good ideas. I am going to focus on the "me" time as well. Hugs and Nancy K
