Found this article on the web and thought I'd share it with you all... paula ******** Are you afflicted with FOOD-ON-THE-BRAIN? by: Kathy G. Wise, R.D., L.D. How many of your waking hours do you spend thinking about food? It is said that the average human hand touches the refrigerator door handle 26 times a day. That's a lot for three meals. How many of your waking hours do you spend thinking about food? In contrast, how many hours a day do you think about moving your muscles? Most overweight Americans spend too much mental energy on munching and not enough physical energy on moving their muscles. If each of us added just eight minutes a day of walking to our lifestyles, we would lose 4 pounds a year. As a nation that would be one billion pounds of fat. To successfully manage your weight, there needs to be a balance among three characters that live within your body: Mind, Mouth and Muscle. Think of your mind as the manager. Your Mind listens to your Mouth or your Muscles then decides what is best for the body. Your mouth pleads for you to move to the kitchen for a snack. Your Muscles beg to walk in the other direction. A good manager (Mind) knows how to keep both parties under control and in balance. Here are some ideas to change from a Mind/Mouth Personality to a Mind/Muscle Personality: 1. When you wake up in the morning think about getting the day started instead of thinking about the doughnut. 2. When bored, think about taking a walk instead of having a snack. 3. If you reach for something sweet to eat when you are tired, think about standing and taking a stretch break. 4. Is evening snacking a problem? Instead of thinking about the chips, cookies and ice cream, think about talking a walk, going for a bike ride or putting in that exercise video you have been meaning to try. 5. When watching TV, commercial breaks often mean a trip to the kitchen for a snack. Instead of going to the kitchen try a walk around the house, climbing the stairs a couple of time or doing some stomach crunches and stretches on the floor. The key is to move the mouth muscles less and the other body muscles more. Thanks for Shareing Paula! Every little bit helps as we fight off those urges to graze during our waking hours! I have a little pig that the wife bought me for Christmas a couple of years ago that "oinks" when the frig light goes on! He reminds me to be careful in there and he works for me! Have a great day P.S. Give you hubby my best and hope he's doing well on his "Journey"!
