Hey guys, I had my surgery on the 27th and Dr. Craig said I could go home on Thursday. The frickin smell of foods in my house is driving me insane. Told hubby to go eat outside with the wild animals and have them fight him for food and see how it feels. Jack ass. At any rate, I would love to just put a chip in my mouth and let it dissolve, how much could it hurt??? I know it will hurt alot. Ok, on to the gurggling. I have been farting, but burping is killing me. I feel like I have the worst case of acid reflux. Can I take a tums to quiet it down? The gurggling noise is allllll around my rib cage on both sides. I don't have a gallbladder so I know it is not that. Do you guys think it is still all the damn air they pumped me up with??? HELP

Hi Jen - Yes it probably still is the air from the surgery. I was told to take Gas-X (they have chewables). I think that'll serve you better than a Tums. However, you should always check with the surgeon's office when things don't feel quite right. Be sure that you sip your fluids and you aren't gulping them - that could contribute to the extra air as well. Good luck!! Hugs, Carla p.s. no chips!!! No matter how tempting!

Lap Band on 03/13/06 with
Dear Jennifer, Congratulations on having your surgery. Be strong and don't put the chip in your mouth. It could open a whole can of worms. I've had 14 major surgeries. Only my lap band surgery was laproscopic. Huge differience in gas pain!!!!!!!!!!!! With my previous surgeries, I didn't have the tremendous gas pain that I did with this one. The first few weeks, I had pain from under my ribs, up to my collar bone. It was horrible. Gurgling, too. I'm a firm believer in Gas-x. If it's ok to take it, then that would give you more relief. Maalox with gas relief (Maalox Plus?) would help the gas and reflux problem. You should definately tell your surgeon if the reflux is bad, though, you don't want to harm that new pouch. He might decide to put you on something like Previcid or if you already take a stomach med, he may increase it. My surgeon did. All the best, Esther
