Hello - starting backwards - advice?
Hi. I am new to the site and I wondered if anyone might have advice for me. I haven't been to a doctor in 6 years (I know, shame on me) b/c I always felt okay and I didn't want them to say "hey, you should consider losing weight..." - no kidding. My health is really starting to deteriorate and I am concerned because I have a family history of obesity, heart disease and diabetes. I feel like I have to do something soon and that surgery might be my best option.
My problem is that I don't currently have a regular doctor (a PCP). I am looking for one but I want to find one that is sensitive to my problems and who would be willing to talk to me about the option of surgery. I'm not looking for someone to rubber stamp the surgery b/c it may not be the best route, but I know that some doctors won't even consider it and I think that would be a waste of my time. I also would like to find a PCP who would help me to coordinate the insurance paperwork and testing and such.
I know it's a tall order and a long post, but I'd appreciate any recommendations in or around the Meriden area (I would be willing to travel some for the right doctor). Thanks!
AC
Thanks for the responses. I tried to call Saint Frances to ask them for a PCP referral, but the woman I spoke to told me that they didn't refer any specific doctors. Should I try one of the other hospitals? I would just hate to pick an office out of the phone book, since I have a tiny fear of doctors (ironic since I work for them).
