Good Morning Everybody, I received couple emails from our WLS people. They want to know how I handle with kids's foods in my house. I do have one room cabient for Kids to have thir snacks like chips , etc... but they do eat healthy foods like mozz cheese stick, peanut butter on rice cake, yogurts, popcorn etc... and I keep telling them to eat healthy foods because I do not want them to be end like me. My son goes to gym by riding his bike and do weight lift and exercise on cardio machines four times a week and he will play football practice soon in August. Jessica will do jazz and ballet this fall and she is playing softball which she loves it. One cabient in my kitchen which I know I cannot touch it but know there is junk foods there. I won't stay in my kitchen until I had to be there for cook their dinner or whatever. I go outside mostly of the day to keep me busy than sitting in the house to watch TV. I am no longer Potatoes couch anymore. I have to be honest with you that I am little worried how I will handle to sit and rest after my surgery. I will be crazy but will listen what my PS ordered me to do and waits for his approve to go head start exercise. B-cottage cheese with chuck pineapple S load of water and nectar protein drink L chef salad with low fat dressing S load of water D chicken with salsa and mozz cheese top with cut green beans S simple smart milk and sf popsicle will do 30 min on cardio during my lunch time at gym Have a good workout! Two more days to go for WLS Picnic and cannot wait to meet all of you! Kathy K

Hi everyone. Looks like a great day out there. Got up to go out for a walk and discovered that my ol' friend Dallas left me a big mess on the bathroom floor. Does scrubbing a floor at 5;30am count as exercise??? ARRRGGHH. I will have to try for a walk later. On the subject of feeding the kids, it is definately difficult. One thing I try to do while grocery shopping is to keep the sugar and white flour items to a bare minimum. I always buy whole grain breads for sandwiches and for peanut butter, I choose the natural no sugar added type. I don't buy soda or sugary drinks. They are loaded with empty calories. Once in a while they will have diet soda, crystal lite or fruit juice(once a day only on the juice), but they mainly drink water and of course, milk. They love all the bad choice snacks but luckily, my kids also love fruit and hummous veggies, yogurt and stuff like that. I do get crackers, sugar free cookies once in a while and lite ice cream or ff frozen yogurt. So when they snack, it's crackers with a little hummous as dip, or cut veggies and ff ranch dressing. They will have apple (or whatever fruit I have) sliced with yogurt dip. sf popcicles or lite ice cream is usually dessert. Sometimes we have chips in the house and when we do, I make sure I have soy chips on hand for me to munch on. I cannot have a snack cabinet in the house... tooo tempting! I can still eat potato chips like they are going out of style... so I try not to have them in the house and when we do, i get smaller bags, so they disappear quickly. I know what it was like being an obese child, it was torture every day, so I try very hard to teach the kids good eating habits. It gets harder though, as they get older and want to eat what THEY want instead of just what Mom puts in front of them. oops! Look at me going on here....great subject though... would love to hear other ideas. b - 2oz cheese, later coffee l - probably salad w/chicken or something s - sb protein bar d - probably hamburger - going to nephew's hs grad party tonight for cookout s - lite ice cream sandwich have a great day terri

It is tough for me as well. Three out of four children in my house are skinny to underweight- the 4th has potential to be like me and I have to really watch her carb intake. I too do not keep "unhealthy" snacks like chips and cookies around except for the "100 calorie" packs which are nice for the girl I need to keep limited- she can have one of those a day and not feel like I am forbidding snacking on tasty treats. I keep finger fruit- ie berries and grapes on hand, mozz sticks, cucumbers and grape tomatoes, carrot sticks- all good choices for everybody. Dinner for me is always seperate from theirs. I buy a lot of Schwan's products- premade- frozen or boxed meals so I limit having to cook/prepare for them- that way I don't eat while cooking. Since we have chickens, we have a "chicken bucket" that all food scraps go in. My goal is to teach the kids- the older ones can I am teaching the younger ones- to scrape their plates after dinner into the bucket- so I avoid sneaking a snack off their plates. Dessert is either fresh fruit or I only make enough for them and I have their dad dole it out- Ice cream treats are single serve a lot- from Schwan's or if I make cookies or brownies- I try to only make enough for the kids and dad and I have dad put away extras. It's not easy and I do sneak a taste or two now and then but like Towanda said about the 80% business I know that a sneaked taste isn't going to sabatoge me so much and I don't dwell on it. I am going to the gym three times a week now and working on my endurance- my goal weight from Dr. Aranow is 12 pounds away and I hope to be there within a month- Then I am going to set my own goal- a reasonable one- and work towards it for my one year point- I am 6 months out right now. I am down from a 30/32 to a 18 and down 100 pounds. (111 from highest weight)
