Protein levels tanking
My protein levels according to Dr Aranow are VERY low - as in " I don't care what you do just add a scoop of Beneprotein to everything you drink- go back to stage one way of eating and get the protein down"
I have had a viral thing for almost three weeks now- diarrhea and nausea- nausea so bad that I can't stand to eat or drink hardly at all. I am trying to force down some tomato soup with Unjury right now- I am really wrung out- and if I am no better by Monday he wants me to have a barium study- I said "I don't want to do that- I will do anything but that" I had a traumatic experience as a kid with a barium swallow- so no thanks. I'd rather have an exploratory lap or a endoscopy......
I have to see him in one week regardless. I was feeling so good, doing so good, and then thi**** it has nothing to do with the surgery- it's viral- at least that' s my opinion and his too- just really has knocked my system out of balance or something....and now my blood levels are starting to show it. He even threatened me with the IV route...hate to tell you- what I already know- albumin goes through a central line not a peripheral line...ouchie....I'll try the tomato soup with Unjury again. Maybe I can get it to stay in me long enough to digest....
Oh, B,
I'm so sorry that you're not feeling well. Could you have picked something up from one of your patients??? How about a bag "fresh" egg of your's?
I hope that you don't have some kind of bacteria like deficil creeping around in there. Is he going to do any bacteria studies?
I'm glad that you've gotten out to see him. He'll take good care of you. AND, if you need further studies, just have him do an endo...what's the difference from a barium swallow and a endo? I'd rather do the endo in a second. What does a barium swallow show that an endo wouldn't?
I know with your little ones around, it's hard to rest, but please try to, ok?
I had an upper respiratory thing for two weeks straight that just threw me for a loop. FINALLY, I'm better. Just had painters in my house for a whole week and I'm exhausted from the moving furniture and cleaning out dust bunnies, etc that I need a rest this week.!!!
Get in touch with me if you need anything, ok? I'm here.
I'm still due for my 6 mo appt with Dr A. and I'm pushing 8 mos! Too much going on and being sick, I couldn't drive the two hours to get there.
Hubby had his initial appt yesterday and Dr A is "expediting" his case and he'll have surgery in 6 weeks or less!
Hang in there...I'll be thinking and praying that you keep your fluids/protein down. Use that unjury in broth too...it's good. I live on that when I'm sick.

After about my third week post-op, I was in ketosis (which was making me very nauseous), had a bad viral bug (which furhter upset my pouch) and was experiencing daily explosive vomitting. Not pleasant-- although it did contribute to a two-month initial weight loss of over 130 pounds. I was able to avoid a barium contrast test, exploratory surgery and an endoscopy by working with my surgeon on ways to boost my protein intake.
What worked for me was to sip lots of broth (the warmth helped ease the discomfort in the pouch and it does contain some levels of protein). Secondly, I was drinking Isopure Zero Carb to stay hydrated (once again, getting in protein while staying hydrated). Third, we tried to find some type of protein that I could eat-- for me, it turned out bacon (very crispy) was the only food that I could rely upon to stay down.
Unfortunately for us, there rarely seems to be a single cause for our nausea and pouch distess-- good luck in getting to the root of your problem.
